The crowd wouldn't be big enough. They are a band that you really need to like to go along and see. It's not the kind of music you can just get in to (at least, that's my opinion) and enjoy for one evening.

I do find the metal lovers hilarious with their determination to defend metal at Glasto though. Like there's not already festivals dedicated to that genre.. That isn't good enough. GLASTO MUST HAVE METAL.

No, it really doesn't need it.

i think the very few heavier acts Glastonbury does have on it's lineup makes it even more special. like when Fucked Up played a couple of years back - going from seeing some absolute cheese on the Pyramid to getting screamed at by some fat sweaty man in the John Peel is just brilliant, and any more heavy acts would ruin the hilarity / spontaneity of that (for me, anyway)

On the flipside you have the 'Glastonbury covers aeverything and has something for everybody' camp when it clearly doesn't. Both are as dumb as each other.

But you've said it wrong. ;)

It only has something for everybody if everybody is open to something.

When people start demanding metal - or anything else come to that - they cease to be fully open to what Glastonbury offers.

There's an unequalled variety at Glastonbury - including metal (tho not of the biggest bands). If you need to be telling them that they're shit unless they have XYZ-band then the issue is with you and not them.

Well I guess that's technically true but so vague you could apply it anywhere - Reading has something for everybody as long as everybody is open to something :P

My point was I can understand why they get annoyed because they get told on one hand that there's other places to go that they can listen to 'their' music but on the other that Glasto's supposed to be this wonderful palce that caters for everybody and has an open mind towards anything, whereas it's both parties who have the wrong take on things.

As long as people accept that while it is by far the most varied festival it doesn't and never will equally represent every size of act in every genre and stop either i) trying to claim that it does and ii) trying to change what it is then the whole world will be a better place.

you're missing the big difference between it having something for everyone, and someone only being happy if it has the particular band they're wanting. ;)

If you compare the want of Iron Maiden with (say) a want for Take That, it's no less fulfilling of each of those wants (to date, at least).

But in both cases there's acts that people who like Take That should like, and there's acts that people who like Iron maiden should like too.

That's what "something for everyone" means. It doesn't mean that Glastonbury HAS TO HAVE Iron Maiden (or Take That).

the metal suggestions seem to be a lot more frequest / a lot more unwilling to believe that it just isn't going to happen. it's like somebody coming on and suggesting Dave Matthews Band should headline and then when told 'no', arguing back that they're huge in America and have sold millions of albums etc. doesn't change the fact that it just isn't going to happen

I think the main barrier to Iron Maiden playing Glasto would be that their stage set up takes an absolute age.

I saw them when they headlined Reading in 2005, they were awesome but the wait between the previous act and them while they constructed everything was ridiculous.

Unless they agreed to play without the theatrics (which would be a shame), or if they could get everyone else on the stage to work around it, I don't see it happening purely from a logistical perspective

A decent metal band that would appeal to glasto goers? It has to be the deftones. Genuinely alternative, great live, heavy enough, good lyrics and leftward political stance. Anyone not convinced, look up team sleep, deftones singers other band
