Efestivals spammers

Sometimes they aren't promoting anything, but rely on people being tempted to click on a link that leads to a site that downloads a small file onto their PC which then logs the use of the computer keyboard and attempts to capture any confidential data, such as banking details

Can you delete the users that are spamming it aswel? And block their ip address?

the user accounts are always blocked. Blocking IP addresses is more problematic, as it often has absolutely no useful effect while also perhaps blocking genuine visitors.

Measures are always taken to deal with spam (tho I'm not saying exactly what), and in the main they're effective. While you might think the spamming is bad, it would be 100+ times worse without those measures.

And while spamming is worse at the mo than it's been for a while, it'll ease off soon enough.

I think Neil does a great job keeping on top of this. I just checked my e-mail, having been away from my computer for a week. In my inbox I had 985 messages, only 8 of which were of interest (and yes, I have a spam filter, there were another 674 in there!). So keep it up Neil, there'll always be a few that get through, but as long as we tell them where to shove it, we can all enjoy chatting about festivals in relative peace. :music:

There's more of the bastards posting this morning. I've sent two a PM requesting that they Fuck Off. Seems to be kitchen orientated at the moment.

Those kitchen spammers are evil, they're by far the worst spammers i've encountered, and they're difficult to stop.

So until they stop, I've added some word filters that change "great kitchens" into "shit kitchens" and the like, as well as contacting the company on regular occasions to send their staff out on false calls.

Which reminds me, it's about time they had a few more "sales leads". :)

It's costing them a hell of a lot more than it's costing me. If every other site that suffers these kitchen spammers (just google to see how many!) did the same they'd soon be out of business.
