I've joined quite a few forums through the years. Anonymosity brings out the worst in people, which means that forums are some of the worst places in the world. I've had to leave quite a few forums simply because they were sort of making me want to stop living. Relentless negativity has that effect on me.

And some of these forums were founded, filled and maintained by my friends - people I saw in the flesh everyday.

But this place - THIS PLACE - is wonderful. Not once have I seen a relative newcomer shouted down or scorned. Everybody feels welcome, and though every thread has some people who'll wade in just to offer the exact opposite opinion of the original poster, I'm yet to see a single thread that's so burning up in hatred to be suffocating. Even the hipster thread filled with reason and right-on balance very quickly.

So be quiet, OP. I don't know what you saw here that so alienated you, but my word, you couldn't be more wrong. This is quite possibly the nicest, warmest, most human forum on the whole internet.

And I think I know why. It's because we're all excited - eagerly awaiting a shared experience of almost overwhelming brilliance that's so potent that even those who insist that the festival's lost its way can't seem to stay away.

I think anyone with over 1,000 posts on this forum can consider themself a "proper" glastonbury goer and their opinions should be respected.

Anyone over 2,500 posts are a hardcore glastonbury goer and as such people should pay STRICT attention to what they have to say.

Anyone with over 5,000 posts, whatever they have to say about glastonbury should be considered absolute gospel. Anyone who dares question one of these elite glastonbury goers should be banished to the V festivals forum without hesitation.

Anyone under 300 posts, well, I dont even bother reading whatever nonsense they have to say, as they simply dont understand the festival at all. How could they?

You do get used to it.

I don't post much and spend more time browsing, some of the things I see are hilarious, for all the wrong reasons.

I'd say 90% of the people on here are great, its the 10% (who know who you are) who have far too much time on their hands and see themselves as protectors of the 'Glastonbury Spirit' without having an ounce of it to their name.

Its a shame but the only strong feeling I can muster against them is pity.

Enjoy the festival!

Surely it depends on the timescale of said posts? 5,000 over 10 years isn't too bad. Knocking 1,000 over a few months (me) is probably pretty sad or evidence that I need a new job/better social life. In my defence though, 90% of those posts are about NFR NFC or Nick Cave, making them the opposite of sad.

Not usually, but as it's used in the context of a form of smugness it's a case of joining a word to a part participle to create a single adjective preceding the noun it modifies. Other examples could be "a well-intentioned plan" or "a horseshoe-shaped bar."

This is only the case when it precedes the noun and not when it follows the noun it modifies. For example you can say "this is a government-mandated program" but you would also say "the program is government mandated". Only the former example is hyphenated.

And yes I did copypaste most of that from the internets :P
