After a day of consuming Cider, Jerk Chicken and Veggie Burgers any robber would have to be very brave and have some sort of breathing apparatus to venture into my tent at night.

Mouse traps work a treat. Hubby puts a few down after getting robbed at reading one year. Stopped two other bastards trying, and gives the camp sometime to watch as a robber jumps around in pain.

Echo everyone's sentiment. I've always camped in Pennard with no problem but I take nothing that is of any interest to anyone.

My clothes are sh1t. My camera is worse. My tent is 10 years' old and my beers are usually the cheapest thing I can find in a supermarket. Even my fold up chair is patched up after one festival too many. I take a nokia 3310.

I sleep in my clothes not least because it is safer in my opinion - regarding valuables - but also becuase it is usually fricking freezing at night.

It all depends on 'luck of the draw' I guess. I've been absolutely out of it hanging half out of my tent and wake up and everything is there - well, the baby wipes and toothbrush so that's a bonus.

As everyone points out, take nothing you wouldn't be gutted to lose and everything else shove in the pockets of your tightest jeans and wear them to Glasto like Jaggers love child.

there used to be gangs that went around doing field after field night after night ive even heard of two girls that used to go around with razor blades opening the back of the tents and nicking things under peoples heads......but since the fence went up its be SO much better i spoke to one of the old bill last time and he said that the JayZ year was the worst since the fence went up .

As stated repeatedly (but not enough for some) use the lockups!!! A couple of minutes out of each day for peace of mind is invaluable.

The only organised gangs I've seen in post-superfence years are after cash, phones and mp3 players as they're all easy to stash quickly. Wallets/purses are usually dropped in or around the tent intact with any cards left inside.

These theives know the most profitable time will be the first couple of nights when more cash is about, but also know people tend to get careless on the last night too as they're going home.

If you wake to find a stranger in your tent, don't forget how many hundreds of other people are within shouting distance. If you're told they're in the wrong tent and it's just a mistake, loudly warn your neighbours. They also don't like it when you get up and follow them to help find their tent as they tend to run away

Some sleeping bag zips can be opened from the bottom, worrying how many people have these and think stuff is safe by their feet.

Don't have nightmares kids and USE THE LOCKUPS!!!

I'd say never padlock your tent, makes it look like something's valuable inside and they'll just put a knife through your tent.

They said padlock yourself into the tent, so I'm assuming it wouldn't be visible from the outside.

Waking up, hungover, hot from the rising morning sun, in a stuffy tent because its been padlocked is not my ideal way to begin a day. Especially since I'd no doubt have just flung the key aside in my elaborate drunken manner.

Theft at Glasto is, I imagine, just like theft at home. You have to unlucky to be a victim but you can also take precautions to reduce your risk. All in all, don't let it worry you.

Tie the pull-string in the back to your inside zip, fasten him face down with tent pegs on the neck and feet (poor guy), and if anyone tries to open your tent, they'll be scared off by a loud "Howdy Partner" or "There's a snake in my boot" waking the whole area!

Wow, after accidentally stumbling into the wrong tent a couple of times in the past, I'll be forever paranoid now about stepping on mousetraps!

Has anyone actually ever claimed on their insurance? Any problems?

Someone who I used to work with, all their camp got their tents slashed in the night, they slashed above where the tent pockets would be, stuck their hand in and made off with the contents. So don't leave your phone and wallet etc in there, keep them in your sleeping bag as already said!

I'd second not using a padlock- I think it could be more unsafe as 1) people will think you've got something to hide and 2) if you needed to get out of your tent in an emergency, you'd spend ages faffing around trying to find the key and open the lock
