In that case I can't explain it, other than personal preference I suppose. I saw Battles up there in 08 and the sound and atmosphere was incredible. Maybe best gig of my life.

Ah I would not try to explain it. It just hasnt happened for me for the gigs Ive been at. Sometimes that happens. If we say about 200 gigs have happened up in the Park I sure some have been great. I just have not been at them (or felt they were)

Sure Im forever complaining about the Other Stage but have seen a couple of smashing gigs there. None other than Portishead last year, which is one of the best gigs I have ever experienced.

So if I do end up at Grant this year lets hope its my first smashing gig up there and he knocks it out of the Park!

So how was John Grant? Many at it? Twas a shame I missed him but it simply was not possible. Did anyone come out on stage with him or did he sing the whole set solo?

It was amazing. No special guests just him but he was fantastic. Just watched it back this morning and it was just as fabulous.

Given the stiff competition and the fact that his slot ran into many headliner slots on other stages I actually thought he pulled a decent crowd. 3rd time I've seen him and he seemed very happy with it. Kind of glad he didn't have any special guests as it's only right all the attention should be on him.

Sorry when we say just him I mean no famous guest appearances like Sinead O Connor or Midlake.

Because I've seen him a couple of times when it literally has just been him on his todd (or with one other keyboard player).

I thought so too. His voice was great and so were the band and he looked very pleased to be there throughout. Although he said he wanted to go away and write some new songs so he didn't have to sing these ones I would love to see him elevated to the Pyramid next year 'cause he really deserves it.

I had seen him a few months ago so felt I could sacrifice him, but man was I annoyed when the times were released and venues. I was hoping for a slot in the Acoustic. It would have been perfect.............but alas..............

Must check out some footage. The setlist looks very very solid.

Yes Glacier was amazing. Such a stunning song. Would love to see him on his own though next time I see him with the whole symphony will be stunning as well.

He was great- I had to sacrifice the Pixies to see Beth Orton and him, but I think I made the right choice. I then stayed around for Mogwai who were also good.

I discovered John Grant through this forum, and sacrificed the Pixies (one of my all-time greats) to see him, a risky strategy which paid off, he was outstanding. I've been slightly obsessed with "Where Dreams Go to Die" for the past few weeks, hearing him sing it live was one of my big moments this year. Thanks everyone.

I missed this thread at the time. Best gig of the festival for me. Glacier *was* the highlight. If you'd told me before that putting guitar over that sublime piano outro could have made it even better, I would have laughed in your face, but it did.

The concert with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra on 6 Music was stunning. I'm really looking forward to the Bridgewater Hall concert now.

I was working in the Stonebridge bar at the time, but it was dead in there and no DJ so we could hear John Grant/see his light show. None of us knew who it was but we all agreed it was fucking great. That shift worked out pretty well.
