Thatcher is Dead

Back to Thatcher, an article from the Telegraph about how what is effectively a state funeral undermines our political system:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/margaret-thatcher/9984619/Margaret-Thatcher-This-is-a-state-funeral-and-thats-a-mistake.html

Some horrible lines in there, and personally I think the partisan nature of the royals needs to be shown up (although the released reports of blatant exertion of influence last year didn't do much), but worth reading nevertheless.

'Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead' closer to number one spot as it reaches midweek top ten following Margaret Thatcher's death.

The BBC said it would decide whether to play Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead during Radio 1's top 40 countdown when places are finalised this weekend"

Capital Radio which supplies 130 radio stations around the UK with the top 40 are also undecided on whether to play it or not!

nope, if you drive a train from leeds to sheffield you get the same.

of course, but I'm talking about the real world, not some socialist, equal utopia that I too would love to live in.

you'll still never convince me that 42k is a realistic wage for someone who drives a train, a job that requires frighteningly low levels of training to do.

I am from the North of Scotland where oil is big business. I know people who would struggle to write their own names, literally no school qualifications who are earning £15-£25k per month. I agree with capitalism but it is a cruel wench if your own the wrong side.

the only reason 42k is perceived to be an unrealistically high wage is because we've been fucked over for so long, and been conned into thinking what people get for being 'dole-scroungers' (sic) is actually a reasonable wage.

20-25k (and thats being generous (especially for the north of england) the level on intelligence and training required is ridiculously low. everyone wants their job. most of them go from being stewards, to train managers, to drivers.
