Glastonbury losing interest

OK its more or less last day to pay balance on my ticket, and I still haven't done it. Was really pleased to have got the ticket, but since then my enthusiasm has wained. Lineup did not help, but I could live with that as there are enough for me to see. I have always only gone for the music, and have no interest in the weird stuff etc. I think its more the camping that's stopping me,at my age I really don't think I could don't think I could do 3/4 days sleeping on the ground anymore. Living 25 miles away from the site I could always go home at night, but couldn't the have a few drinks. Campervan would solve it,but to expensive. So it looks like another ticket will be chucked in the re-sale. Just have to try and explain why I'm probably not going to my friends now :(.

What sort of tent do you have? We take a fairly decent large tent which I bought in 2005 and has never let me down. It has two sleeping pods, and a 'dining room' where you can stand or sit and have few brews. A couple of airbeds and it really is very comfortable indeed, especially when it rains cos you can sit in the dining bit. The tent isn't actually that big, compared with a lot you see. We also take a few home comforts, a stove, kettle, tea, coffee, soup and the obligatory hob nobs

It's quite heavy so we take it in a wheelbarrow, but it is certainly worth it.

Is a bigger, more comfortable tent an option? You can still get them fair cheap amd I love mine

I recently switched from a self inflating mat to an actual camp bed and it's hugely more comfortable - especially if you take your own full pillow from home. If it is the discomfort that's the problem then I;m sure there are ample solutions.

If however you've lost your Glasto-Mojo, aren't inspired by the line-up, aren't really a fan of the non-music attractions and feel you'd be stuck not enjoying yourself for 4 days then I can see why you wouldn't go. There may come a day where I feel I've had enough of Glasto but I'm not there yet.

I'm no spring chicken but try to make my bed as comfy & warm as possible. And without being too greedy a tent with some room to breathe. Does the trick for me.

We never regret the things we try and fail at as much as we regret the things we didn't try.

Go and you might have a few aches and pains but plenty of positives.

Don't go and you'll really regret.

Ah, the yearly Denwyn "I don't think I'm going to go" thread, we must be getting close. Not much point posting on here as everyone will just tell you to go. If you genuinely don't think you'll enjoy yourself then there's no point in going but you really have to weigh up the pros and cons and make a decision. If it really is a comfort issue then I'm sure there are ways of making your weekend more comfortable. Just be careful you don't really regret any decision you make.

I went through this, thought I had my time at glasto and couldn't get the enthusiasm. After posting on here I am now counting down the minutes!

As one poster said in my thread, you have a ticket - go! you might not get one next year :)

I was feeling like this for the past few weeks, but yesterday I went for a walk around the site, and now I am counting down the days.

You say you live 25 miles away? Have a stroll around, climb on the pyramid frame (how small is it up close!), visit the stone circle, pretend to be a pirate. It was the most beautifully sunny, warm day yesterday, as it will be in June :)

Two berth popup tent, maybe a bigger tent would help, tried a camp bed, not very comfortable. Have thought about the ready pitched tents, could be easier with less carrying gear from car to dairy field area, and maybe a decent inflatable mattress. Never been cold at night, just my old bones don't like camping anymore.

I'm only mid-30s but as a 'larger person (ahem)' I do struggle with camping comfortably and find the aches and pains get me down. After years of sleeping on a rollmat, I genuinely think a good-quality inflatable mattress makes a world of difference - they can be pricey but they're an investment. Maybe that would help, and would be cheaper than a campervan.

Why not go for the compromise option? Pay your balance now, then take a bit more time to think about it? You can cancel up to 3rd May and you only lose £10 either way. Don't do something hasty you'll regret.

How about you pay your balance, you can still get a full refund until early May (I think it's the 3rd), so you'e got another month to make up your mind. During that month you can research camping comforts, and ways to transport them on-site. A larger tent which you can stand up in (people are recommending Vango Icarus 400s and Eos 550 XLs on the Glastobating Facebook group, both of them are tents with standing room, and relatively cheap and light). A better camping mat or bed, proper pillows, decent sleeping bag, good quality ear-plugs, and a few other creature comforts could save the day.

Just paid for ticket, all the comforts mentioned are ok, but its more to carry from the car, i always use a decent sack truck, but even that is not easy going. Trouble is i am first to arrive and usually end up carrying the tents up and pitching them, anyway the ticket is bought now, and i have just told the ladies i think they will have to do there own stuff this year, well i tell a lie i have sent them a txt.... I may still go with the ready put up tents and a decent mattress, even though its £200 more for me it could be worth it.

Lots of us have been through this. I decided not to go in 2008 (because I felt like I couldn't face the discomfort of 2007 again, not because of Jay-Z playing - would have loved to have seen him) and I regret it massively.

As the festival rolled around I got more and more upset that I wasn't going; if they hadn't announced they'd sold out by Friday morning I would have headed down Friday evening. I ended up watching most of it on telly, drinking Brother's at home, wishing my legs were caked in mud and my face was burnt to a crisp. I felt incredibly miserable.

I'm not missing another one until I physically can't make it or don't get a ticket.
