ticket exchange question

that's a fair point, and I did consider that before making my reply.

But I dont think there is any sort of a touting problem whatsoever with glastonbury anymore, so I am not sure we are putting the festival at risk with these replies.

That being said, your website, your rules so no problem.

thanks everybody for the answers.

neil, i didn't mean to generate any problem to you or to the festival.

in the end, i think we're going for the resale, tryin to help our friend. but i think there's no problem in discussing the ticket system. i just feel it's a waste to have a ticket and not being able to give it to someone who wants to come, face value obviously

while I understand the OP's reasons for wanting to 'transfer' the ticket, the tickets are not transferable for a very good reason.

By encouraging people to try to underhandedly transfer the ticket, you're making a mockery of that system. So will regular posters please stop and think before they post?

That aside, the gate staff do check the photos on the tickets. I dunno about any of you, but I'd be pissed off to fly across Europe to be refused entry into an event, and to lose the £200 I'd paid for that not-usable ticket.

Because while it's possible that the wrong person might get in with someone else's ticket, it's more likely that they won't.

Wasn't there a 'worm hole' (or whatever they are called) advertised on this forum telling people how to by pass systems put in place in order to ensure access to the booking page (although I may be wrong as I didn't understand it, being IT illiterate)? If so, surely this could be interpreted as having an unfair advantage over others not familiar with this forum? Is that not making a mockery of the intended system?

Im guessing the point is if people start thinking the ticket system is easy to bypass, then touts will start buying them up again and just say "dont worry about the photo, they dont check it anyway"

the only reason there is no touting is because people think the photo system is strictly enforced. Without that perception, touting will start again.

I dont think the "worm hole" scenario is the same thing really

however, this case seems legit. But we dont know the OP from adam so probably neils point is fair. Could be a tout just testing the water for all we know

You might see my reply as double standards, but I'd say they're different things....

The info I gave here on ticket day was simply a way to bypass a broken part of a ticket-selling system so that that ticket-selling system did what it was supposed to and sold tickets.

The photo system is on the tickets to stop touting, and it's succeeded in doing that - because the system works. But if the system is shown to not be working by the likes of the OP's friend getting in with someone else's ticket, then it's a tout's free-for-all again.

While it's hard to get tickets we're all smart enough to know that it would be a LOT harder to get tickets if the touts were buying them.

More a case of wanting a discussion on the subject / seeking information that might bring my morals back in line.

I'd say it's pretty simple.

While there's no problem in theory with transferring a ticket to a friend at face value, in practice it undermines the anti-touting system.

Ultimately, you either have to think the anti-touting system is worth supporting, or that you have no problems undermining it with all the potential consequences that brings.

Incidentally I got offered a ticket for 2011,a friend of a friend couldn't go at the last minute but we didn't look similar,I said that It was too risky and that I would only give our mutual mate the money once I was inside,He didn't agree so I didn't go and after the rain etcI think I had a lucky escape

Last time at the gate i noticed a couple of oriental looking girls having to show extra i.d. - make of that what you want.

I wouldn't risk it personally unless they are identical twins. Some security may turn a blind eye but you'll always get a jobsworth at every gate. It's a hell of a long way to go back for her on her own and it'll probably spoil it for the rest of you
