ticket exchange question

hello everybody,

hope you can help on this one.

we're a party of eight, comin' from rome, italy. on monday we'll confirm our tickets, but unlikely one person (a girl) can't come anymore. we got another friend (always a girl) that would love to come but needs a ticket. the two girls are pretty similar.

do you think we can give the ticket to the second girl? obviously we're not scalpers, we just would like to make the girl happy and bring her to her first glasto. i'm pretty confident that while crossing the gates, the girl would get in: a glance at the picture and two girls are not that different.

i just fear that someone at the gates can give us an hard time. thinkin' bout that i'd hope to get through telling them the thrut: we're coming all the way from italy, we're not scalpers, let her in please...

have you ever had a similar experience? any suggestions? thank you,

antonio

it's a risk, but depending on how similar they are, then the risk decreases. Only you can answer that.

I think being foreign will help your cause to be honest. If it all goes wrong you could plead ignorance due to the language barrier etc. Say you've some all the way from italy etc...

Understand that if you get challenged the she wont get in. and it's a long way from pilton to italy!

I'd risk it

I have no idea how it works really. Are the team leaders of the gates teams checking to make sure people are thoroughly looking at photos? Is there any comeback to the people working the gate if they let someone in on the wrong ticket and get found out somehow?

i think it will depend on when you arrive,if you arrive at a busy time like when the gates open i think they will be trying to get as many people as possible on site so will be less vigilant.Get there later on when everyones in and your bound to get some jobs worth who thinks hes doing a good thing by not letting you in.

If your from italy and they ask for a passport to match names etc to i would said you have left it at relatives house in scotland or somewhere far from the festival. or even an hotel

I know i would risk it

Couldn't the girl who is not going lend the girl who wants to go her passport, and possibly some other ID as well? Then, if challenged, the girl could produce a plethora of ID. That would seem the way forward to me. If challenged you simply stick to your story that the girl in question is the girl whose photo is on the ticket. Ask to see a supervisor if this happens and create a fuss and then tell them that you have come all the way from Italy. It may help if she is loaded up with camping kit etc and looks like she's struggling. This happened to me last year when I was carrying someone else's large tent as well as my own stuff. The bloke on the gate saw that I was in distress carrying this heavy load and simply waved me in without looking at my ticket.

It's a tricky one, because the risk of being stuck outside is always there even if you consider it to be small. And while I'd risk it if I could just go home, I'm not sure I'd fly to a foreign country if I wasn't sure I'd get in.

I've not followed news of the resale (fortunately I don't have to), but wouldn't it be sensible to try to get a valid ticket for your friend if you can...

i was thinking about that: to carry the first girl's passport. not to impersonate her, but just to show our good intention: the first girl wasn't able to come so the second one paid her for her ticket. no scalpers, no ticket stolen. nothing bad, just the willingness to be at her first glastonbury.

i know the rules bout tickets, but do you really think that they would let a young girl go away and let the other 7 people that came from italy in?

i don't know, i'm just tryin to help her.

(anyway, forgive my english)

My advice if they have a smiliar hair colour is - big glasses and a hat

From experience with other people ive been with if they have been rejected from one gate they haven't had their ticket taken off them. They've tried the next gate and got in no problem. It all depends on who you get checking the ticket

Yeh I think wearing a big hat and sunglasses is asking for trouble. Just drawing attention to yourself.

As ever when trying to blag things, just being confident is the key to success. Walk to the gate with big smiles on your faces, say hi to the person on the gate, a bit of chit chat then walk on in.

dont wear a hat! i was amazed last year how much they checked the photos, i was wearing a hat(it was my ticket!) and they asked me to take it off, they checked more than they do your passport when you go on holiday! take the rick if you want, but as been said here its a big risk, so have a back up plan

If you are going for it then it may help to speak animatedly in Italian as you approach the person on the gate. Then declare to them in English that you have travelled all the way from Italy to be at Glastonbury and that it's a dream come true etc. Smile at them like you've never smiled before and has been said act confident (use The Force). If it's pissing it down with rain (please God give us a dry one this year) she could put a coat hood over her head. This would help cover her features a little. I wouldn't advise wearing a hat and glasses as this has drawn the attention of those on the gate in the past.

The ticket system is very strict at Glastonbury, which is a good thing as touting seems to be non excistent and buying a ticket from say Ebay is too much of a risk.I dont know anyone desperate enough to pay an over inflated price for a ticket that may be a fake or the picture doesn't look like them

So it seems GF has nailed this problem,I'm sure they know that a few people have gone in on friends tickets bought at face value and I don't think they would think there was anything morally wrong with doing this after all the system is in place to get rid of touts and they have succeeded,so I wonder If someone who looks a bit different on their ticket are they that bothered, depends on the person I suppose.

Incidentally I got offered a ticket for 2011,a friend of a friend couldn't go at the last minute but we didn't look similar,I said that It was too risky and that I would only give our mutual mate the money once I was inside,He didn't agree so I didn't go and after the rain etcI think I had a lucky escape

As well as taking her ID with her tell your friend to memourise her date of birth, where she lives and as an extra precaution where the ticket was sent to,I'm sure they will have tricks to catch you out and that question would and every legit person should know where the ticket was sent to

while I understand the OP's reasons for wanting to 'transfer' the ticket, the tickets are not transferable for a very good reason.

By encouraging people to try to underhandedly transfer the ticket, you're making a mockery of that system. So will regular posters please stop and think before they post?

That aside, the gate staff do check the photos on the tickets. I dunno about any of you, but I'd be pissed off to fly across Europe to be refused entry into an event, and to lose the £200 I'd paid for that not-usable ticket.

Because while it's possible that the wrong person might get in with someone else's ticket, it's more likely that they won't.

    • Very different in terms of time of game,  yet remember how excited I was before the first game in Euro 2016 having grown up not sure I would ever see wales in an international tournament. That day scraped a win against Slovakia and was just happy to see wales score and win at a tournament, little did I know we would finish in the top 4. Hope Scottish fans get the same experience.
