I'm fairly confident a good time was had by all. Orbital were mind blowing. I'll never listen to heaven is a place on earth by Belinda Carlisle again without thinking of that performance

I think the final Essential happened in Bristol in around 2003. I also went to one or two (I forget which) in London (Hackney?), and I think the last one in Brighton was in 2000 (I think it was one of the first fests that efestivals reviewed).

Saw them the last time they headlined the other stage. They were brilliant but I will be elsewhere this time around

I think Essential was 2002 in Bristol, definately a 3 dayer, I went to the "dance" day and Busta Rhymes headlined - he turned up after the Cerfew and the organisers had to have it extended. Bad vibes in the tent (around me anyway) because he was so late and lot's of people though he was going to be a no show. De La Soul were earlier though.

A typical rumour, but my best friend's, wife's, sister has got a friend who works at a record label and he said Kasabian for Sunday and Massive Attack Other stage headliner. From the same source Black Keys as the last headliner for Latitude festival. I have nothing to back these rumours with and don't even really know where they have come from but will be interested if they turn out to be true. Looks like the only one that isn't out there at the moment is Black Keys for Latitude.

I went all three days to the last one at Ashton Court, and yep the atmosphere was well dodgy at times. I had some guy try to pick my pocket (he only got my baccy, not too much of a loss) while his mates distracted me in the other direction which was a bit of a bum ... tho the next day I saw the pickpocket on site again with lots of blood running down his face. I smiled.

On the basis that your friend is claiming Glasto stuff that I know to be right, I'll do some digging on Black Keys.

Sounds plausible ... as long as your source hasn't read the Glasto stuff here.

It wasbefore Kasabian was a TBC and before Massive attack were rumours here, and I'm lurking on efestivals most days : ).

As it is quite litrally a friend of a friend I didn't mention them in posts because it could have just been B.S. but when I saw that the other 2 are TBC on here I thought that there might be more too it.

Sometimes people really do have have friends of friends who are people in the know, so it would be daft of me to automatically dismiss anything from that sort of source.

Funnily enough, i found an old poster the other day from Essential Weekender 1997. Massive attack were one of the headliners. i rember thinking at the time that they were well past their prime. I'm not sure that 16 years later I'd be bothered about seeing them.

I revisited Heligoland over the weekend, really good stuff, and of course Mezzanine, which is a classic in its day , also watched a gig on Utube from 2010 in Germany, great stuff. Really looking forward to these, i hope they don't give me mega clashes on the Sunday, I will have to see who pops up on West Holts because at the moment against the others they are looking favorites

Well of course most of their tracks have a guest singer, though not all but i guess we'd see Damon Albarn Horace Andy or even Guy Garvey, not to mention the ladies, Shara Nelson and Liz Frasor, though i'm not sure they are still around these days?

If you're lucky you'll get just Horace I reckon - tho for him to play with MA is an utter waste.
