Car parking ticket- RIP OFF!

I think its fair enough, covers the cost of the extra fields they rent out for the convenience of using your car ...plus as others have side, even if your on your own its 5 quid a day parking...2.50 if there is just two of you!!! Bargain really!

Don't really have an option. Can't see any coach allowing me to briing rucksack, tent, cases of beer, food,etc - it would just take up to much space in the coach

It's not a good deal when you consider you are already paying £205 for a ticket plus booking fees for every ticket ordered.

It's pretty crappy to pay 25 euros if your car is full of people. The system at Glade is a lot better. If your car is full then you don't have to pay for parking.

For us coming from Glasgow the return tickets on the national express coach are £97 each - so for the two of us to travel by coach it will cost £194.

Alternatively bringing the car will cost around £120 in fuel (800 mile round trip x 15p per mile) plus £25 for the parking pass, so quite a bit cheaper. Even if I revise upwards the cost of making the journey to 20p per mile it's still cheaper to take the car!

So in other words the coach doesn't seem to be offering particularly good value compared with driving down ourselves, despite the fact our car (at the moment anyway) is only going to be 2/5 full. When you consider all the advantages of having your own car down there (e.g. leave and arrive when you want, store stuff in it and bring it out as you need it, good place to keep extra clothes in the event it's a mudfest) it becomes a no-brainer.

Yes I know it's likely we'll get caught in hours of traffic on the first day of the fest, but once that's done and dusted then it soon becomes a distant memory.

Every car takes up the room of a tent - so that's 200 quid that they won't get because they need to provide parking. There are only so many fields.

The £25 is probably to help discourage car travel - but it still sounds like a good deal to me.

Well I take my point back, can't believe anyone can't actually cycle to a festival! I struggle to walk carrying all my stuff to festivals, cycling just 100% wouldn't happen.

I've used a coach package to a few festivals before (never Glasto, but Bestival this year for example) and whereas its handy to have someone esle drive for you, the one disadvantage is your limited in what you can take, and if the timing of your coach is late in the day you either get there late and have to camp a mile from civilisation or your coach is the last one to leave meaning your stuck at the back of massive queues leaving the site.

There's pros and cons, but I drove to Glasto in 2011 and found it very straighforward and minimal queuing...although the half-decent weather may have played a part in that.

You cannot compare parking in London where land is at extreme price to parking in a cow field in Pilton. It costs them almost nothing. Yes it is a rip off.

The same applies to the CV field. How is it more expensive to put a van in a cow field than to book into a proper caravn site with electric hookup, water and showers ? It's also a rip off.

I love the festival but don't let that love blind me to the fact that you are being fleeced along the way. Ticket price, car park price and CV prices have increased way, way above inflation and avg salary increases for years. If it is still going in 5 years then Glasto will be the domain of the wealthy (if it isn't already).

I am happy we got tickets and we are going but it doesn't alter my opinion (that I have posted here for the last 5 years or so) that it is priced too high.

you're forgetting that Michael has to rent most (if not all?) of the fields that are used for car parking.

Do you think those fields are rented to him at a standard agricultural land price, or do you think they screw him for every penny they can over fields that they know he HAS TO have?

Looks like it has been going up by £5 a year since 08, again that is a massive percentage increase and bears no relation to inflation or earnings. From £20 to £25 is a 25% increase in price, how can that really be justified for anything.

I've travelled by train, car and coach to recent Glastos, and even if the car park was £50 I'd still have spent far less when travelling by car. Public transport is prohibitively expensive in this country, but when you factor the amount saved on booze there really is no comparison.

some of the increases in car parking charges has been a deliberate choice by Glasto, to try and discourage people to come by car - so while the increases can't be justified by just inflation, there's other justifications in the mix alongside that.

It's worth remembering that one of the bigger impacts the festival has on locals is the traffic (and in some recent years it's meant the roads nearby being clogged for 12+ hours), so trying to lessen that impact via price rises for car parking does not mean just greed.

I can't see the point of comparing the cost to parking in a major city, but the cost for parking a car or campervan is a lot more than most other major festivals. However given what you get compared to those for a ticket it's still better value overall if Glasto's your thing, whether it's a money-making venture to offset other costs or a serious attempt to cut down on the number of cars (I suspect it's a bit of both).
