While I fully agree that Placebo have been declining in popularity, they've got a hell of a lot better live in recent years. A good balance in their setlists, Battle for the Sun is an excellent album, and they've got an energy at their shows that was missing 5-6 years ago.

They were 3rd down last time they played, beneath KOL and Kaiser Cheifs, and before that subbing Pearl Jam. So they are dropping down the bill and definitely haven't had a resurgence in popularity

i'm pretty sure I wasn't there either of those years, it must have been earlier than those.

2006 they subbed and 200 but except they they've only played 3rd highest. I still reckon they could do 3rd on a bug headline day with a strong sub though.

I'm presuming The Cure have got a 2hour set?

If they play though.

I could see The Cure, FATM, No Doubt, Placebo one day.

Personally The Cure do nothing for me in the slightest, but a lot of people will (and are) over the moon with this news. Fair play if you ask me, they're a legendary band and a nice change to have someone as legendary (sorry for using the same word again, but its applicable). Just a shame I am not a fan. Here's to someone decent being on another stage, and hope all you Cure fans have a blast!

Texted 20 people that I go to Leeds with: 9 said 'that's brilliant', 6 said 'that's terrible', 4 said 'thats ok' and 1 said 'I want to kill myself' this is both boys and girls - ranging from about 16/17-24 (it's a mixed group and for the record it wasn't just the younger ones who were positive and older ones who were negative) but the best response came from my dad (who said he'd never go again after 2010) it went something along the lines of 'fucking hell that's amazing! scuse my language, but I think I just shit myself with excitement' haha he never swears usually!

I'm 21 and The Cure have been my favourite band since I was 9 or 10, looks like this is my glasto sub this year. I would be personally more offended by Kasabian headlining although I can appreciate a few of the songs, watching them before springsteen a few years ago made me realise why they should never headline a major festival. It's a shame because I do agree newer bands should be given the chance to headline and I'm glad arcade fire got the nod recently. These are just oppinions of course much like those of all of these "youngsters" who are too cool to be happy that one of the biggest and most influential artists in the past 30 years are headlining reading and leeds. If the rumours are true and they are headlining i'll be there in a heartbeat and i can safely say thousands of others will be too.

Will be buying a day ticket for the Cure day at Leeds- am I right in thinking that the rumours suggest that it will be the Saturday night they'll play Leeds

Just watched their Bestival perfomance. Pretty lacklustre I thought. It'll be like Pixies I'd expect. Small crowd of people just there to check it out, most of which leave when they see no charisma and very few recognisable tunes leaving a very very small crowd of big fans loving it.
