Now then, now then, if the rumours are true he was a prominent figure in a few people's childhoods.

At the moment no one seems to dare suggest anything other than he was a hero. Yes, he raised lots of money for charity, ran lots of marathons but I don't think he was ever at the cutting edge of music. He was a face of his time but I'd be hard pressed to think of any differences he made or a legacy he left. Maybe it's just me but I always thought he was actually a bit of a self-publicising pratt.

Hmm depends what you see as the cutting edge of music according to BBC news last night it was his idea to put two record players together. Something that dance/disco/hip-hop is quite reliant on.

But I don't think he ever mixed anything. All he did was play one record after another but with less of a gap between them in a dance hall. US music stations and radio had been doing that for years.

Whether he mixed or not is irrelevant undertsanding that in a dance hall he needed as little as gap as possible (or none at all) was the key. An there were none being manufactured at the time.

There was always something quite weird about Sir Jimmy and we may never find out the real truth behind the rumours but he did do alot of good work for charity and hopefully that'll be how he's remembered.
