Arcade fire supported u2 last night so youve got a headline act from this year being suported by a possible headline act for 2013. I think that shows how big the acts were this year. Its going to be hard for eavis to please the mainstream in 2013

My own opinion is that arcade fire are behind kasabian in the headline que

We need bands like AF to step upto the headlining slot. We have prob 20 bands that are worthy of headlining id say at the minute and we are on the brink of boredom.

Muse, Coldplay, Metallica, Linkin Park, Foos, Greenday. They have all been playing top slots around UK festivals for a decade.

I would love to see AF or Elbow or Kasabian headline glasto.

And which genius mentioned Dr.Dre??? That would be a masterstroke by Eavis if he could pull it off. Cant see it thou.

Sorry, obviouly Dre would have to bring a few guests but listening to his hits would be brilliant.

I wasnt bothered about hip hop acts at festivals but after seeing Eminem at titp and snoop at glasto i feel it would be brilliant.

And i could just imagine the storm it would make, and id love it.

They've become massive since headlining! They are unbelievably big compared to how big they were at this point last year

I can't see how it's dependent on how many people went, because then thats judging the gig before they've even finished.

I tried to get tickets for Hyde Park a couple of months beforehand and it was sold out, not only that but the Scarlet Mist alert system (people who use the site will know what I mean) was full. Whether they put a few more returns on sale just before the gig I don't know, but it did sell out weeks in advance.

They're a hell of a lot bigger since this time last year. Still may not be enough bearing in mind a lot can happen in two years, but in the last year their popularity and profile has soared.

Seriously? (I realise I'm talking about Reading which may be where we're different)

I don't really know what to say, other than to look back at how big they were this time last year, and point out that even if people don't like them, they know who they are. The majority of commercial British fans will know them as "that band that played at the Brits and won all those awards", the majority of R+L goers will know them because the smart ones knew them already and the others will know them from last year, the majority of American commercial fans will know them because of the Grammies.

I got exactly the impression that's what happened after Leeds haha. The reaction was great, and it's viewed as one of the best R+L performances of all time.

This time last year, they were a cult band, there's no way they could have played arenas, let alone Hyde Park. Would not have won a Brit, would have struggled with decent Grammies. I have no doubt that's because of R+L. Now they're one of the biggest bands in the world.

So if we use the typical life expectancy for indie-rock bands that are heavily touted by NME they'll have split out, reformed and been forgotten about by this time in 2013, and everyone will be w*nking furiously over the next big thing?

Kings of Leon weren't particularly big when they were announced as Glasto headliners in 2008. They certainly weren't headlining and selling out big outdoor shows. They'd never had a top 10 single and their most recent UK tour was in arenas but smaller arenas (eg Wembley Arena as opposed to the O2, Manchester Central as opposed to the MEN). I'd be surprised if it sold out that quickly.

But Glasto headlining arguably pushed them upto a new level of fame here. It's a moot point in some ways because that was also around the time they turned awful, but if KOL 2008 were big enough Arcade Fire 2013 will definitely be big enough.
