i reckon there is a chance the festival has two artists and/or bands that may have agreed to be called it if the wanted headers aren't free.

Radiohead and Lady Gaga i think both get glastonbury and would be happy to do this.

that assumes that the festival has a 'wanted 3rd headliner'. The fact that the fest is calling all and sundry about headlining gets to mean that there's no wanted headliner right now*, there's just a headliner that's wanted.

I suspect that there might be a backup plan for the Stones, but it's pretty clear from where I'm sat that there's no plan at all* for that 3rd headliner.

(* unless something has been sorted in the last couple of weeks).

Gaga it ain't from what I've heard from a few directions - tho I can't be 100% certain on that.

Discussion about gaga is very back and forward... She's been added as a 'R', and personally I can see her playing, but you do seem quite adamant she isn't. So yet again, major confusion!!!
there's very definitely a rumour (more than just speculation) going around that she's playing.

The info I've had from a number of directions suggests to me that it's not true, but it's not good enough to confirm to me that it's not true.

I'm not able to fully dismiss that rumour as false, and so it's in the rumour listings.

If I went by my own feelings about whether an act was playing or not, the rumours would be very different - and far less accurate.

For example, I've never really believed that Glastonbury would want Fleetwood Mac to headline (on the basis of a convo with Michael about 5 years ago); if I went with that feeling then they would have never made the rumours. Mick Fleetwood has now revealed that they were offered a headline slot, and so my feelings about them would have been wrong.

People seem to have difficulty grasping how I do things (I guess cos it's hard to explain), but I do take a consistent approach to things and I don't work it on the basis of what I think, but instead on what I know. The results speak for themselves. :)

the fact that fleetwood mac were asked months ago and had to answer months ago makes me think that the stones were asked months ago too but said no? i dont see why they would let the stones have seven months to decide. so i think the stones aren't playing which to me makes radiohead seem a lot more likely.

Going by what's come past my ears, Fleetwood Mac told Glastonbury 'no' around 6 weeks ago. Glastonbury have been on the case for finding another headliner since then (certainly up-to a couple of weeks ago).

Everything is still suggesting to me that Glastonbury is still waiting on the Stones; a few weeks back I had my doubts because I heard of approaches to people to headline, but now everything suggests that's the result of Fleetwood Mac saying no.

Glastonbury will have known that the Stones wouldn't give them an answer before early December at earliest, and that they might have to wait until at least mid-January - because The Stones work how they work and if you want them you have to accept what they do. The delay with the stones will be about putting together their whole tour and where Glastonbury might fit & work within it.

From what i've heard Glastonbury are prepared to wait as long as it takes, presumably because they believe the answer will be yes. Personally I don't think it will be, but personally I didn't think they'd ask Fleetwood Mac to headline, so don't go along with what I personally think - go along with what the info I tell you I hear tells you. It'll be more accurate.

I didnt know that FM were offered it, surprised they said no in that case, they were quoted as saying that they wanted to play (or was that just Stevie?)

from the bit I heard this morning it sounded like there was a realisation that one televised Glasto show at a low fee equalled many fewer high paying other shows.

Neil by 3rd headliner do you mean The Stones, as in 2 headliners have already been booked (Arctic and someone else)

Or do you mean the 3rd headline as in Arctic, Stones and a 3rd headliner that hasnt been asked asked (so in reality only 1 headliner has been booked so far)

Really,

I am surprised that one of the worlds biggest Festival only has 1 headliner booked 2 months before the line up is going to be announced and by the sounds of it doesnt even have a idea for a 3rd Headliner

I've got my fingers crossed that Richard Hawley has a lower down slot on the Arctics day, then comes on stage that evening to play You & I, it's happened once before.

Arctics - Stones - Dizzee is pretty fucking solid in my book.

Well I can see where you're coming from, FloorFiller, but I reckon it's a reasonable assumption he'll be given a leg-up to headlining, he's massive, he'll bring musical diversity to the headliners and he's British. Apparently patriotism is "cool" now (I have read this is newspapers so it could be drastically wrong) due to Olympics, Jubilee, Royal Wedding, people being suggestible goons etc. Glastonbury could easily capitalise on a "best of British" angles, Union Jacks and shit, Arctics, Stones & Dizzee is a great bunch of acts to put that schtick across. I was originally annoyed that Dizzee went pop, but he can do what he likes, he's earned a Glastonbury headline slot I think, if not this year then soon.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
