Extra bands to be announced?

So Rival Schools self confirmed last night on Mike Davies' show. I can't remember the exact dialogue (it'll be on iPlayer), but it went something like this:

Mike D: So when are you guys next over in the UK?

RS: Reading and Leeds this summer.

Mike D: Really? I can't find you on the bill.

RS: We're not on there yet. It's kind of a secret. They're (Festival Republic) starting to worry about selling enouch tickets. We got a call from them and we were asked to play.

Mike D: So you're kind of like a secret weapon?

RS: Yea, haha.

This suggests a couple of things to me:

1. They're not playing the lock-up as Mike D didn't know they were playing. Possible main stage additions?

2. FR haven't sold enough tickets and are starting to crap themselves.

3. There may be more 'secret' additions to come.

4. Could be on main stage for the MCR day as they are short of a band.

Sounds like they were joking as Rival Schools aren't exactly gonna create a surge of new tix sales just because of them.

Can anybody actually imagine them on the main stage? Are they a main stage band right now? Maybe they have been in the past perhaps, I'd just think they'd be on the lock up or festival republic stage. Even bands like The Blackout & Architects who are on the lower half of the MCR day seem much bigger and more known than Rival Schools. Just my input.

Besides I still have a hunch that the band going to be added on the MCR day is Four Year Strong.

I reckon Four Year Strong will be special guests on Lockup Tent

I also think Rival School may well be in the Festival Republic Tent

What are the chances of Slash or Avenged Sevenfold playing the MCR days? may sell a few more tickets..

I wouldn't expect much but saying that I can see a band quite easily slot inbetween Deftones & Rise Against but the only big(ish) band I think of that could be announced now due to contract issues is either Reel Big Fish or Less Than Jake due to Slam Dunk last weekend. I'm still surprised that there were so few Slam Dunk bands this year.

I'd like to think that if they have a big announcement to make, I doubt it'd be Less Than Jake or Reel Big Fish (No disrespect). I'd be expecting a more hefty affair like Rancid or the Arctic Monkeys.

    • Rumours are it's called The Lost Tour. In the US in September. Ireland in November (so UK+Europe a good bet around November/early December).
    • Hey guys, is there a group going for any solo y not goers this year?? I couldn’t miss out once I saw the acts but it’s just me and would be great to meet some others:))
    • After deciding to abandon the festival, here's a few of my thoughts (mostly negative tbf).    On the positive side - was it just me or were there a few more urinals than last year? Seemed to help the queues at the loos a bit from what i saw. Plus they had at least had some foresight and had a few more covered areas in the VIP areas.    Now on the negatives.  The weather was admittedly pretty crap but it wasn't apocalyptic. How the actual f**k are bits of the main stage falling off in those conditions?  Then the communication was awful, there's a load of people who left the site because they were told by security guards/other personnel that there would be no more acts on the main stage this evening.  You have an app Primavera, use it! Yes, there's a shitload going on I'm sure but communication with the festivalgoers should be one of the top priorities. You failed.    And I'm not usually somebody who buys into the whole "oh this is hugely unsafe and it's lucky people weren't hurt" narrative, but all the above led to movements of people that were genuinely unsafe.  Evacuating Mordor entirely (again... Why???) and then having a horde of people trying to get in because they thought they were going to Massive Attack was insane.  And given a lot of people basically abandoned ship around 10.30pm the crush at both the exit to the festival and the entrance to the Metro was pretty dangerous.   Conditions happen, most people will get that....but the contingencies have to be better.
    • You'd think that something like bad weather was in the basics of festival planning. After the shitshow of Madrid, you'd think they'd learnt their lesson, apparently not...
    • Same. Shower and back out in a taxi!
