Bono to do secret show...?

Bono + Someone makes sense. He's never done anything truly solo (i.e. completely on his own) ever before.

Got to be Friday, so if it's him/members of U2 crashing someone else's scheduled set, the best bet surely has to be Hothouse Flowers in the Acoustic tent. Both bands are old/still friends, and Adam Clayton played with Hothouse Flowers at Glastonbury in the early 90s.

Or if its some unscheduled random collaboration it could literally be anyone, anywhere.

I reckon it would be a nice touch for U2 to invite Matt Bellamy onstage to do a Muse song with U2 in return for the Edge playing with Muse last year.

I think Muse are touring with U2 in the states so maybe it has already been discussed ?

Best bet is maybe Jay Z on Sunday Bloody Sunday. Bellamy, I doubt it. And if they did, it certainly wouldn't be a Muse song.

I actually think that if this time last year, Edge was 110% certain that U2 would be doing Glastonbury this year, he might well have declined the Muse offer. It was done (by both parties) as a nicety for those disappointed with U2 having to pull out. And it was a nice gesture from them both. But at that time, U2 were still not completely sure of whether they were ever going to be able to re-start their own tour, let alone sure of what they'd be doing in a year. So I'm sure part of Edge's acceptance of the offer was with the thought that it might be a long time before U2 are able to do it themselves.

This will be a ncie little thing to think about. It will also be an interesting test for the U2 refuseniks as to whether they'll abandon whatever small stage Bono appears on once he, well, appears...

It's a shame that the Shrine to Bono isn't going to be in Shangri-La this year; that would have been a great place to do it!For what it's worth my guess would either be Leftfield with Bragg or something, somewhere in the Greenfields.

We've had word from one of our more reliable (tho not infallible) sources that Bono is going to do a secret show somewhere at Glastonbury this year.

Along with that nugget of info - which might be wrong don't forget - we've been given an idea of where it might happen, but that's something I'm not going to post as that would just about be a guaranteed way of ensuring that it didn't happen.

If it happens and you're lucky enough to see it, enjoy. :)

have you any tips in how I could find out about when and where?

If it's really happening then I think it's unlikely that there'll be anything revealed about when and where - because if it was there's likely to be too many people for it to happen safely. And if it can't happen safely then it won't happen at all.

Which of course all feeds into the doubts I have about whether it's true anyway. If it's reached my ears then it's likely to have reached plenty of others, when it's the sort of thing that's really only likely to be known by a very small number of people until it happens.

Shangri La have posted a facebook message with a picture of Lady Gaga, saying she appeared in 2009 and 'who could it be this yeeeaarrrr'. Does the elongated year have any U2 reference at all?

There's a difference between him appearing on stage with someone who is already announced to sing along with one song and him and someone else doing a completely unannounced secret set somewhere. I think it'll probably be the former, he'll just pop on stage to sing vocals for a song or two with someone on earlier on the Friday. I can imagine him laying down some rhymes with Wu-Tang.

it will be something never been done before.

saturday afternoon ... sharing chorus vocals during Gaslight Anthem's '59 Sound'...and then Bono shouts out "this next one's for Neil from EFests" before the Gaslights and he belt out a 10-minute cover version of "Outlaw Pete", Bono's hat and all...

still plenty of time for Sat afternoon departure to get into Michigan sat night for sunday's gig. [yes, yes, i know...it's still on the pyramid, and Neil says this is a non-pyramid event]

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
