Glastonbury's a pretty laid back festival crowd and music wise yet a few bands creep in who do start need a good old mosh pit. The only one I've experienced was at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1XGJNTNk74. Hoping Flogging Molly will get the crowd going. I'm not talking about the crowd swaying from side to side and/jumping lively crowds where actual pits form with the odd circle pit or wall of death. But I have to ask being a love of a good pit:

*Is Glastonbury the time or the place?

*Have there been others at Glastonbury in the past?

*Who on this years line up could get one going?

*Am I right to assume most Glastonbury patrons wouldn't really have a clue what I'm going on about?

Tried to get it all going at Iggy a few years back. Puzzled looks. People backing away from me. Mind you I was very much off my head at the time.

There's always a little spot where people are going for it - usually front and centre. You'll find 'em.

Muse and Foals had one last year. Also there was a ickle one for Dizzee rascal's version of smell like teen spirit

Moshing is a bit weird to me. There was a great pit at the Pixies gig that I went to last year, everyone was going absolutely nuts but it wasn't really moshing, it was more pogoing than anything but it was still the most fun I've ever had at a gig.

But all this wall of death stuff I really don't understand. It looks to me as if it's just a bunch of pre-pubescents showing off how tough they are to one another and then boasting to their friends afterwards about how they "Kicked a guy in the head in the wall of death". To me that's not really enjoying the music that's just finding an excuse to be violent for the sake of being violent. I suppose it's just a different vibe to what I'm used to really.

Glastonbury is very laid back but the crowd still know how to have a good time. For example last year at Hot Chip the crowd were literally lapping it up and everyone was going for it at The Flaming Lips afterwards. Stevie Wander was another cracker aswell, everyone around me seemed to be having a good time. I don't really think that Glastonbury will ever be the type of place where properly brutal moshing goes on but that's mainly because of the crowd I think. But than again I heard everyone at Download is really friendly.

I think right down the front for pendulum might get a bit spicy ;-) and a few people waiting for beyonce may get a bit of a shock! When I saw them last it went nuts !

thankfully there arent enough kids for "moshing" at glastonbury.

Give it a couple of years though and more of the bellends will be there (tickets funded by mummy and daddy of course) to hasten the decline of the festival

Last year a group of lads were moshing to Jamie T in JP - couldn't understand it myself but they looked like they were loving it...

I love a good pit, best i've seen was Gogol Bordello at Reading last year, just loads of people jigging having time of their lives in the pit.

Chases and Status at Mk Bowl last year also had quite a few 'dance offs' with flips et al. which were very entertaining and created a very good vibe.

We were on the barrier front and centre for muse last year, and there was so much moshing behind us. The Mrs got punched in the head several times and we were crushed against the barrier.

Our fault for thinking people wouldn't be going mental. D'oh!

Was a shit position to stand in and saw nothing with security stood in front of us pulling people out over our heads.

When i saw blur everyone was going abit mad but there wasnt any 'moshpits' as such, although couldnt see much of the crowd as i was getting crushed on the barrier!!

ive never seen anything at glastonbury that will compare to reading, but glastonbury is a different atmosphere, glastonbury is alot more fun, i doubt your gonna get a kick in the head at glastonbury!

I went to see Chase and Status in Yeovil a couple months back and the MC got everyone to do a wall of death there. So it's not just limited to 'heavy' music!

I dunno I don't mind moshing when its proper gig goers, doing it with the music but most of the time it just seems like people end up wanting to go to a gig for a fight and the wrong sort of music for it so it just really depends for me.

Most of the time I find it most annoying when I am watching "indie" bands where its a couple of teenagers trying to act cool and think its the done thing at all live bands.

I've always found them to be good natured and a bit of fun and have never been assaulted in one.

If you fall in a mosh pit you'll barely have time to hit the floor before about a dozen helping hands just spring out of nowhere to help you up!

Lost Prophets in 2004 on Pyramid Stage got a couple pits on the go, I was right at the back end of it, wasn't partaking in it myself mind, quite a wierd afternoon if memory serves me right Scissor Sisters were on just before them as well.

Heard of Pulled Apart by Horses gravejr? They are very lovely. They should have a pit.

It'll be the first time I've seen Flogging Molly without one if there's not and it'll all be very odd but we'll see. Glasto is generally a bit rubbish for them, too many old people and chilled out bands I guess. Last year there was one for Levellers and the King Blues (I think) any maybe for Gaslight, all pretty small though..

There wasnt one for Coheed which was a bit crap, there weren't many people that even knew the words and they had a small crowd. Odd for such a big band but I guess it was the wrong festival for them.

Thing is moshing (slam dancing, whatever) is *not* about people kicking the shit out of each other. If done correctly it's great fun for all involved - and naturally for an activity that involves hundreds of people simultaneously slamming into one another, there are boundaries and expected behaviours in place. For instance if someone falls over you're all supposed to pull them up.

Of course, like anything, some idiots won't know the ropes, and will mess things up for everyone, but on the whole a huge adrenaline rush and a few bruises are all you should experience.
