Using someone else's ticket

hi.

My friends just texted me saying her cousin can no longer go to glastonbury and shes willing to sell her ticket to my friend.

they don't look too alike, however its a shady photo and my friend can get ahold of other documents.

i've not heard that you can 'transfer tickets' but if anyone knows if thats possible please say ( although i do know it states 'Tickets cannot be transferred to another name.' on the glastonbury site)

if not, has anyone got any advice? do people recon its worth it

I've seen people turned away and have myself had to remove hats/sunglasses last year as the photo was a few years old and they wern't sure.

If your friend has 200 quid to risk it then go for it, just be prepared for them to have a lonely journey home if they are turned away!

It is a gamble of time and money (and possibly greater disappontment) over gaining entry, as Mike said.

However someone posted on here after last year that they had got in succesfully using this method.

It does come down to a £200 gamble in the end. Perseverence may put the odds in her favour. Different gates, different days, different times and all that.

Still a gamble.

In 2007 my 43 year old dad got in on a ticket with my picture (I was 16)

We were in the campervan field and he was going in and out 3-5 times a day and it was fine every time. He even managed to take off his wristband on the Saturday because he found it unhygienic and still get in and out.

This. If they don't confiscate your ticket or mark it in some way (which they may well do? I don't know) then I'd have thought trying with a different steward would do the trick.

Not sure that is legal. They could ask you to accompany them, they cannot force you to do so.

Security have the transferred power of the landowner (eject you from the land) and the power of a citizen to make a citizens arrest. In order to make a citizens arrest you have to be comitting a criminal act. Presenting someone elses ticket is not a criminal act as far as I am aware.

So unless you voluntarily go with them they do not have the power to detain you and cannot stop you from simply leaving the site.

They can't take the ticket off you but as you have voluntarily handed it to them (to check your face) they can of course not return it to you (which amounts to the same thing).

I could of course be wrong but I did check the powers that security staff have a couple years ago and this was the case then.

On site is a different matter as you have given them certain other rights as a condition of entry (searches etc).

They can of course call on the police who it seems can do whatever they damn well please.

The original point stands though that to attempt this is a gamble.

Likewise as Mike says i too had to take off sun glasses and hat as the girl had a proper good look at the photo before clamping the all important wrist band...

If your mate is prepared to take the risk she must make sure she is comfortable with making her own way home should se get refused... ontop of that let her mates know that there will be no hard feelings once they go through as it will make them miserable leaving her at the gates...(well until the brothers kicks in at least... you get my drift)

If she doesn't look like her can she do stuff to look more like her? Would it help to dye her hair/get a similar haircut to the one in the photo/ or lose/gain a few pounds? If she is going to go for it I think she needs to really go for it. It is a gamble. Some stewards hardly look - others will examine you - the more she can do to make them feel that only a cursory glace is needed the better.

the photo quality has been improving year on year. in 2007 they barely checked them because the photos were that bad you couldnt tell one from the next from what i remember! But last year they were really tough on photos and even the looseness of your wrist band...

as we where getting to the gate you could see which cue where getting their tickets scrutinised and which where not so if the person with the dodgy ticket is travelling fairly light so that the can swiftly aim for a different cue they will stand a better chance.

Human beings don't scrutinise tickets, bus passes etc. Christ I went on holiday and back with my passport photograph glued back on! That's four times my passport was looked at and they didn't even notice the obvious glue stains.

Don't believe the naysayers, well worth the risk!

All depends on the timing I'd imagine. Going in at the paek time of gates opening they won't have the time to check a few times but we arrived about 5pm last year and our tickets were checked quite thouroughly as it wasn't busy.

it really is random, a fair few of the gate staff barely seem to check or care at all. thats been the case for me just about every time since 07 but i have heard of the odd few scrutinizing ones!

a lot of the gate and wristband staff are oxfam volunteers who are for the vast vast majority very laid back and well in with the festival spirit (which is welcoming and friendly, not "go away you dont belong here"). for me it would take a brave or indeed jobsworth steward or gate staff to actually challenge you. I know if i was volunteering my time as a steward on the gates i wouldnt care enough to challenge people at the gate, but then i'm not everyone....

personally i'd risk it and make sure you do enough to look like the photo on the ticket and you'll be more likely than not to get in. i'd say it'd be minimum 60/40 chances of success but most likely a lot better.

Up until last year I'd have said it was worth the gamble, but last year (at least at the gate and time I went in) they'd really upped their game in checking the photographs. Everyone's photo was getting properly scrutinised and unless you looked really similar to the ticket holder I wouldn't have fancied your chances of getting in.

There was a thread last year from one of the gate staff talking about the systems in place, and I seem to recall there was some sort of punishment for them if they were lax, not to mmention "secret shoppers" from the security & the local council checking the systems.

Not sure it is down to the attitude of the staffer these days.

Yeah but people are still lazy as f**k. Supermarket checkout people can get hefty fines for selling booze to underage people but lots of workers are too nervous and don't want to agitate people - it wouldn't surprise me if some of the ticket checkers are like that.

The thread I was refering to - the worker made reference to several people (some coming from great distances) being very upset when they were turned away.

I think it's safe to say you might get in - only the people involved can make the judgement about the risk/reward.
