This year I'm planning on travelling light. All I will be taking are the clothes I stand up in, my wallet and a sleeping bag. The plan is to put my sleeping bag in a lock up and buy all my food and drink on site. I don't mind, in fact quite enjoy, sleeping under the stars. The only problem I can envisage is if it rains at night, I won't be sleeping much only between about 4 am-9 am, the solution to this I think is sleeping in a portaloo but I'm not sure Glastonbury etiquette permits this. There will be plenty of spare ones to use as there are no queues at the times I plan to monopolise one.

If I was to do that I think I'd choose sleeping in one of the big tents rather than a portaloo, but your choice!

A mate used to go without a tent (and indeed a ticket) every year, taking only a satchel with a couple of t-shirts/pairs of pants and socks. He slept in marquees around the site using the satchel as a pillow. In '94 he managed this at glasto, pheonix, reading and T, so clearly it won't kill you.

My recommendation is stay up later and use dance east to sleep in during the day, I got a nice couple of hours in there last year and it was lush, plus I got to meet interesting old hippies and stoned off duty coppers

Remember it gets very cold at night even in June - why not buy a lightweight 1 man tent - only 1.5kgs and for around £20/30 much better than sleeping in a bog!

I once used a sun tent. The pop up type that has no front. That could easily be returned to the lock ups. You should find shelter other than a loo though. So many places to crash out. Just look around during the day and see how many places there really are.

Being homeless actually sounds appealing here.

You can kip in the Hare Krishna tent and there is also a welfare tent if you don't want to take a sleeping bag, I believe the welfare tent supplies bedding for your stay.

It's not actually whether it's a good idea or not, I was more wondering if I would get moaned at. I am quite poo friendly, a few years ago, after a heavy session, I woke up with my head in the cat litter tray.

Do ettt, it won't kill you but try the empty tents for better place to kip in the dry and invest in a heavy duty sleeping bag.

I was going to buy a cheap sleeping bag coz I am going to throw it away after the festival, unless anyone here wants to buy it?

if you're carrying a sleeping bag you may as well take a tent, not that heavy or awkward to carry, and you know, you'll have a tent.

If I took a tent like that I'd want to lock it away every day - once the crowds see that they'd all want a piece of it for themselves.
