Can't see a thread on this yet ... (please point me to it if its around, not being able to search on three letter words is a pain, Neil! ;) )

Loads of points to talk about.

Personally as an Englishman I really hope we get it. It would be amazing to have it here, but that's coming from a purely sporting viewpoint. The panorama last night raised some interesting points with regards to conditions (mainly tax break related) that FIFA demand from the government to give a world cup to a country. Should we give into whatever FIFA say?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10091277

Was it in the bids best interest for BBC to air the panorama on voting irregularites three days before the bid? Should be BBC care whether we get the bid or not?

I'd hope that the FIFA would not be influenced in the upcoming vote by these allegations. But this is FIFA after all. Personally, I think we will get it. After recent assessments by FIFA on the quality of the bid in terms of comercial power and hospitality our bid came top... its looking promising :)

Others as optimistic? Any English out there who hope we don't get it?

Yeah, well interested in what our other neighbours think. I imagine the Welsh on the whole would want us to get it, and the Irish. However the scots want us to lose at everything, even if its a bid to bring the world cup to their doorstep. I might be wrong though

We were never in with a chance of winning hosting it, and we're decades away at earliest in ever winning hosting it.

The rest of world football hasn't yet got around to forgiving the English for running football & FIFA until about 1970. So until that's left people's heads it's a non-starter.

Then add to that the fact that the UK has been exposing FIFA corruption for at least 20 years - with FIFA pretending it's not been happening - and you quickly come to realise that they're not going to volunteer to put themselves under the biggest scrutiny possible by having the tournament here.

I'd love for England to get the World Cup, the only worry would be the home advantage could perhaps win it again.:P

It would be great to tavel down from Scotland to soak up the atmosphere and catch a couple of games but sadly I can't see them getting it, I guess we'll see. If England don't get it I think it'll be a damn shame as they have put a great bid together and I've no doubt they'd put on a fantastic World Cup.

I'd love to have it here, I'd hopefully be in a stablish and decent job by then, my baby cousin will be old enough to take, it a be proper good it would.

Sadly I don't think other countries like us very much to vote for us and let us put on a blinding world cup.

    • Hi Everyone!   I need your help. I'm trying work out who was playing at The Wishing Well at 3am on the Monday morning at the 2025 festival - this was once the official setlist had ended. The music was down tempo, bass heavy, kept evolving, just mesmerising. Anyone have any ideas? and/or was there as well?
