LEVELLERS

Personally I think The Stuffies have more hits than you give them credit for, its just that many people have forgotten the vibe that was around and gave rise to bands like this at the time, and it just doesn't translate into todays very different music scene very well.

Think Dodgy are a bit like this today too. Everyone remembers one or two songs; often don't remember that it was them that were responsible for it though, and can't remember many over the chart hits of the time (e.g. Good Enough; Staying out for the Summer anyone).

Is that fiddle player really his missus as well . . . Well done Mr Hunt.

Ah, now you're all 'the wonderstuff aren't very good'. Where were you f**kers in 1989, eh? :P Felt like I was the only person unmoved by them as 'Hup' blasted out from every f**king student bar.

Whisper it quietly but PWEI were also cack and Ned's Atomic Dustbin were possibly the worst of all.

wise words from the newbie - welcome!

Levs have had both effects on me, saw them first a few years ago at a one dayer in Cornwall, knew the songs of course, but never saw them "back in the day". Loved it. Went to BDs (twice, and going again this year after a year off), loved them. Saw them at Wychwood last year, v disappointing really. Sort of saw them Glasto 09, disappointing, but only coz I couldn't get in and was wet.

The whole point of these bans - Levellers, Wonderstuff, Ned PWEI was that live they were a different level (no pun intended) to most of the bands around at the time and many now could learn a lesson from them on how to get a crowd going.

Nothing disapoints more than going to see a fave band and finding out that they are mediocre live.

Then again there is no better thrill than seeing some band you have never heard of or liked and finding out that live they are stunning - thats what makes glasto so good as there are so many times you just happen to catch someone who is secretly stunning live

Saw them last night and it really was the best gig I've ever been to! I've seen them before but last night was the best.

The Stuffies were pretty good too, really energetic. Levelling the Land is one of my favourite albums so it was fab to see it done live! Absolutely stunning.

    • The first half of that game was cracking but then I fell asleep at half time. Maybe that's just the momentum of things.

    • A win is a win but it was a very poor game with only 4 shots on target in the whole game. Scotland obviously handed a massive bonus with Brazil and Morocco drawing but I don't think either of them will be too worried.
