Yeah so in a nutshell, my mate was working (in a hotel) and one of the guests were citizens of pilton, they claimed to be friends with ME and have stated that he has told them that rolling stones and take that are playing.

Now I don't actually believe this, I mean anyone in the pilton area could make these claims or just anyone in general in fact. Just would love one of you to destroy the take that claim more than anything. I was in belief that the stones would play anywho.

I wouldn't take anything Robbie Williams is quoted as saying as being anything but a contrived soundbite to attract attention. That said, I don't think comments like "our stage show won't fit" help. Clearly, they don't get it.

What? That line up would be awesome, imo. Probably wouldn't watch Coldplay, but I'm sure there'd be something to my tastes on one of the other nine billion stages. RE Take That, yes, Robbie is a bit of a twat, but Glastonbury getting the band would make it very funny for all of the people that forked out hundreds of pounds for one of their tour tickets.

Lets be honest, i'm sure all the hippies back in the 70's probably wouldn't think much of the dance villiage, or bodger and badger or half of the bands that play the festival these days. Fact is times change and Glastonbury is a festival so diverse why shouldn't it feature some main stream pop acts? I'm sure there are plenty of people who go who would enjoy Take That and there are plenty of alternatives for those who wouldn't. And if they're willing to play for a small amount of money then they're welcome as far as i'm concerned...I'm not fussed about seeing them, but they're welcome.

You say that an act like take that are "not glastonbury" I say not being diverse and excluding acts because they are more mainstream is "not glastonbury".

An unfair criticism of the 'hippies back in the 70's'. I suspect the opposition to TT is coming largely from people too young to have been hippies in the 70s. The spirit of the early days was very much live and let live. Hippies are too chilled to complain. It's those who now just go for the bands who are the whingers.

1) Take That will command a decent fee/slot. They are acknowledged as a manufactured act with specific appeal to teenage girls (first time round) and little in the way of songwriting/musical ability. Their resurgence is partly due to to nostalgia by those same fans who now have careers and disposable income. There is an argument that the fee/slot could go to and act with more credibility and who are perceived as being more deserving as a result.

HOWEVER

2) It is a festival of performing arts and as a popular musical act they have as much right as anyone else to be there. They will attract a decent crowd no doubt and those who don't like them will have plenty of options.

I'm firmly in camp (1) and personally see no value in them as an act, but I acknowledge the validity of camp (2).
