As this seems to have come a bit out of the blue and Neil is placing them on The Other, I reckon Neil's got just a teeny bit of info on this one and therefore probably has a little bit more than he can tell us about some others. One question, Neil. If you were betting on which night REM were going to play on The Other Stage, which night would you put your money on?

yep, we have some info, that includes them playing a lesser slot than might otherwise be expected. They may or may not be on the Other Stage, what day I've no idea.

Brilliant news, I imagine it's going to create a nasty clash though. If they are headlining the Other Stage one of the nights then that gives me a lot of confidence in the size of the headliners...

They'd be perfect under U2 though I reckons

In a perfect world I'd love something like

U2

Arcade Fire

Radiohead (Probably gonna be Coldplay I guess though)

R.E.M

The Stones

Pulp

And then maybe Other Stage headliners of something along the lines of The Chemical Brothers and two others (obviously)

Great news!

If the mooted U2/Coldplay/Stones headliners are correct. I'd be very happy for REM to headline the Other on Fri or Sat. Clashing with the Stones would seem very silly to me, but perhaps that's personal greed!

Great news, they'd be perfect as second to last on Pyramid or Other Stage headliners as I think their Pyramid headlining days are behind them, but they were brilliant in 99 and 2003

That could be a great call in terms of splitting the audience and I think REM are ego-free enough to do it.

My instant reaction though was a hunch they could sub for Pulp on the Sunday. Eavis said he had a 'big American act', doesn't mean they have to be the headliner IIRC

Not a chance! REM don't have egos at all, but they would never precede Pulp. Radiohead, U2 and the Stones would be the only bands they would do this for. Even for Coldplay, they wouldn't take a sub spot for. While REM are a worldly music-knowing band, they don't have the awe-inspiring respect for Pulp, a band who are hardly that big outside the UK & Eire

This 'SR' rumour is fantastic news. i think they'd want to see U2 play (like they did for Radiohead in 03) not go against them, so i'd guess they'd be more likely to conflict against the Stones. but if there is any truth to this rumour, my guess is on before U2 on the friday, just like Milton Keynes Bowl 1985 (and throw Billy Bragg on while we're at it)

but can you imagine them playing Other Stage? REM vs. the Stones could well be the biggest two bands to ever clash at any single festival. that would be a really tough choice for me. having seen REM at Glasto before, i'd have to take the Stones.
