Done that. I haven't got any more room in our mug cupboard and my drawers are overflowing with T-shirts, so £18 seems a bargain for the value we get out of this site.

I can see I don't get the big ads that split the forum, Neil, but I still seem to get the ones in the margin and across the masthead. Do I have to take out platinum membership to get rid of them? ;)

Nope, I have to do a bit of twiddling at this end ... hang on....

(and thanks for doing it :))

Hi Neil,

Not sure if it is relevant/or a business model that you could use, but the B&O fansite Beoworld manages a decent subscription level - based around a bronze/silver/gold tiered system.

In return, there is a monthly prize Draw as well as access to info not visible to guests(mainly donated prizes...you should be able to rustle up enough tix, memorabilia, advance info, etc etc that would justify an annual sub of £xx ??)

Back in the day, I not only bought a T shirt, I had the ISP and email "package" too.....

I think the take-up (or more precisely, the lack of take-up ;)) with the ad-free option makes it pretty clear that using these forums is something only a small number would consider paying for, and realistically it's quite understandable.

As for having freebies galore to give away, I wish. ;) ... about the best it ever gets is when some numpty at a record company confuses egigs with another website and sends us promos for months on end until they realise  ... and festie promoters are tight with festie tickets because they're such high value compared to other tickets - it can be difficult getting tix for reviewers &/or for competitions at times.

eFestivals - do you get paid for each click on a link or just when the advert is loaded onto the page? As I'm unlikely to click on any advert due to it be less than useless for me, blocking adverts seems the only reasonable option.

On the plus side, Neil, until I read this topic I didn't realise you had a subscription! I have now signed up ... don't think you should give MrFunk a cut though, he doesn't seem to approve of such things. ;-)

Perfect - sorted. Looks just like the olden days B) Whilst you might be right that the majority of people wouldn't be prepared to pay, I'm not sure most people would be aware of the ad free option. I hang round here a lot and I'd never noticed it. Maybe you should flag it prominently on the front page (don't tell me .... you do!)

Sorry to hear that Efestivals has financial problems, this is a great site. I always block ads for security reasons, even the biggest "reliable" providers have been reported as serving ads containing viruses and other nasties.

I only pop in here a few times a year, not enough to justify a £18 annual subscription. But I've just bought a T-shirt to try and help a little bit.

Can you add a Donation link ? pay pal address maybe. I'd be more than happy to support. I have used this site for years but don't really post as i hate Internet Warriors ! This site is like vcdquailty. Without both i cease to exists.

given the amount of hits this place must have been taking (there were close to 1000 browsing an hour or so ago loooong after tickets were gone)i'd find it utterly remarkable for the board to keep functioning as normal at the height of the frenzy. i reckon neil has done damn well keeping it working through then. yes it was slow, so?

Don't be a dick, It was harder to get on the site today, it wasn't impossible. What are you trying to insinuate by asking what the profits are spent on? Through this site plenty of people have got tickets today so maybe give the people working on it a bit of credit.

my point was you dick, that Neil justified the use of all these adverts to run the site.. you would think that there was enough revenue to support the site on a day like today, but yet again it failed... so why do we need to have all these adverts? as other forums dont...

I don't have an issue with Neil, just all the adverts.... the site failed today, so the only way to make it work is yet more adverts, which will make it even slower.. shame as it was a good site... and friendly.. till admin got a bit sensitive and just can't admit that maybe the sure struggled.. yeah I would pay to be advert free.. but if I had , I still wouldn't of got access like many other gold members...

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
