Arriving on Thursday evening?

Due to our final A Level exam finishing on Thursday afternoon, myself and a few friends will drive straight to Glastonbury and should arrive by 4.30pm- will we find a nice place to camp? And will we miss out on much? It will be our first Glastonbury so we're pretty annoyed that we won't get the full 'experience' after paying so much money for the ticket, but we're obviously really excited to go :D Do many people arrive at this time? Thanks!

You already know when your exams are in 10 months time??

You'll be able to camp, just not in the popular fields. It also depends on how many of you there are. If you need to put up 2x two man tents then you'll be fine. If you've got 6x 8 man tents then you'll struggle.

You won't miss out on too much as Wednesday there is officially nothing happening. And without the world cup next year it may well be quieter.

As Topaz said, you will find somewhere but you will have to look.

Theres often plenty of spaces in the big fields but you probably wont see them unless you go walking through the tents, instead of sticking to the paths.

The outskirts of bushy ground and over near woodsies are usually ok until friday

You will miss a couple of days of bimbling round the site and sitting with a nice Brothers cider in the sunshine, but apart from that the main entertainment starts on the Friday. You will also find you will spend less time in traffic coming on the Thursday.

As it will be your first Glasto read some of the other threads here about distances. If you don't know where you'll be camping and will have to hunt around for a spot be prepared for a lot of walking and carrying your kit.

Thanks for all your replies, it's a big help. We're prepared to walk around a bit to find a decent spot to camp, it'll probably just be 3 of us so hopefully we'll be able to squeeze in somewhere with a small tent. After going to V for the past few years, we're prepared for the walking- took us 2 and a half hours from carpark to campsite this year!-- how does this compare to glastonbury? And another question- at V, you have to camp in the designated campsites, is this the same at glastonbury, or can you set up your tent anywhere on the site within reason? We're all really up for it anyway, hopefully we'll be lucky with getting some tickets!!

The distance walked depends where you park and camp. The camping is in designated areas within the festival site.

Great guide to Glastonbury in the lisk below, should help you decide where you want to be.

If you find a mate with the Glasto Q Review, ask to take a look at this years aerial photo. There seems/seemed to be a huge area in the new additional camping area north of Oxliers. I know that word probably means f**k all to you but its the name of the main camping field near the Second Stage. The new extra space is north of this area I believe.

Additional camping space was put in there this year and looking at the pic, it would appear there was plenty of space left on the Friday (when the pic was taken). The pic actually looks to the south but even when you are on site north feels like south anyway! :D You'll understand that comment once you arrive next year.

Well same scenario for me this year!

Me and my mate had it booked for ages, but they shuffled our exams back 2 weeks each, so we both got messed about, fortunately, i finished on the monday, and as much stick i got off my mates for going down early, my mate i was going with completely understood, and i agreed to go down, fortunately i got a lift off here, from a really great guy, and he set the tone for my whole weekend! Got a fantastic camping speck for me and my mate, got it done for the England Game, and Hazzzah! I had the best 6 days of my life..

So basically what i'm saying is, If any of you aren't still doing exams on the Thursday, try get down early, i wasn't bored on my own, people were just fantastic all weekend, i ended up barely seeing my mate!

If you can't do it, no worries you'll get a speck, it might just take some time!

We arrived Thursday this year (my eldest had an exam thurs morning), we arrived about 4pm, took us a good hour & half to get to the gate, then we asked where there was room for a large tent, we got told to go down near the back of JP tent/dance village, near the bottom of bushy ground...something bridge it was called. When we got there we took about 30 mins deciding where the best spot was, there was so much room we couldnt decide :)

We had a 6 man tent and a 2 man pop-up and had loads of space, more space than we have ever had before

Great location for the day near JP and the dance village and easy routes to the main stages, BUT it was a real trek back from the late night areas :(

I have friends who camp in this area every year, I can see why they do for the JP and dance tent convenience but bloody hell is it a long way from the eastern part of town. Lovely view of the tor but a very strange atmosphere I have to say.

It took sooo long to get to theirs, so much so when we left SL at about 5am, we didnt get to their tent until around 6ish. I know why I head to and live in Pennards and/or Park since 1999, that is for certain! 20 mins tops and that is staggering slowly!
