The Beat

I went to see The Beat at Glasto this year.I thought Dave Wakeling, the lead singer was still in the group, but at Croissant Neuf,he was not there.

Anyone know what happened to him,has he left the group or was he ill?

Nowadays, there's two "The Beat"'s.

Ranking Roger is the guy doing the one that tours the UK.

Dave plays with one that that plays in the USA (as "The New English Beat" I think).

I'm not sure if there's any spat between them about it. I've got the impression it's simply the case that Dave now lives in the USA, and so they split things for where they're living.

Looks like they did at least 3 sets then, Croissant Neuf, The WMD one in the Theatre Field and (one I missed) Arcadia:

Singing along to 'Stand Down Margaret' was a definitive point in my festival this year, happy happy days.

We got kidnapped by half of Madness from Sugg's DJ set in The Rocket lounge in Shangri La, and taken to see The Beat in Criossant Neuf. As this happened only just after seeing Stavros Flatley, and just before a giant singalong to Wonderwall accompanied by a single bongo drum on the railway track, it was one of the more surreal episodes of the festival.

I saw The Beat in the CN on Sat night - it was brilliant.

Those songs still sound great and relevant today.

I think its only Ranking Roger and the drummer who are the originals though

Managed to see 2 1/2 of the 3 sets missed 1/2 of Arcadia gig as had to get from dance area after seeing Nev Staples, Croissant Neuf was an epic of a show 2 hours non stop and was banged out brilliant, Sunday was kind of ruined for me because of Englands efforts at football.

Roll on next year :D
