Memory Man I fear you may be correct. Rumour has it Daft Punk will tour 2010/2011 but given that they can get a lot more money elsewhere and have no real affinity or history at Glasto then seems unlikely they would be there. I would love to be wrong though saw them on Daftendirekt tour in 97 which was ace.

The first festival (of sorts was held in 19/09/1970, but it wasn't until 1971 that the festival was moved to coincide with the summer solstice, that there was a pyramid stage, and that it was called Glastonbury Fayre - so there is a very real and valid argument that 2011 is what a lot of people would consider the 'real' 40th anniversary of Glastonbury Festival.

taken from here:

"Andrew Kerr co-founded the Glastonbury Fayre in 1971 with Arabella Churchill, with the first ever line-up including David Bowie, Traffic and Fairport Convention. His new book, Intolerably Hip – The Memoirs of Andrew Kerr will be published in June 2011 to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Fayre. Andrew writes with a light-handed touch that entertains and provides a credible portrait of the Glastonbury festival archive"

Page 14 of the official glastonbury programme (in 40 things to do) - "Number 39 - Think about next year:

It's the 40th anniversary of Glastonbury Fayre in 2011. In celebration there will be a retro pyramid stage with performers who played in '71 to coincide with 'Intolerably Hip', the memoirs of Andrew Kerr, co-founder of the festival"

Everyone's been so focused on 2010 being the big 4-0 for Glasto, but there's a definite possibility of 2011 being even bigger.....I'm a born and bred 'Zummerset Girl' and from the people I know 'behind the scenes' they confirmed the intention of 'retro-ing' the pyramid......so following on from that if you are looking at credible pyramid acts for 2011 that's where I get my possibility (however remote!!) that we might just see a Bowie set B)

Kylie

U2, if they want to, 3-4 warm up dates, no claw etc and then Glasto, easily done.

Radiohead

Unless Glasto grow a pair and book Metallica. They would destroy the Pyramid Stage. :)

Not suggesting they headline, but 2nd last on the Friday would be sweet! I dont think the average Glasto goer is familiar with Battery or Ride the Lightening.

What ever happened to that plan of having headliners from previous years on other stages? There weren't THAT many this year and most of those that played are glastonbury regulars anyways e.g The Levellers, Orbital, Faithless

It would, imo be slightly odd for next year to be also celebrated as the 40th Anniversary because its generally accepted that 1995 was the 25th Anniversary and 2000 was the 'big' 30th with Bowie playing again.

I don't really count Radiohead as it was only really two of them. They would have never had the full band on the Park, if they would have though, i'd count them.

Kylie appeared, thats all she did.

Neither Keane nor Biffy are past headliners but fairly big bands although Biffy aren't really that big at all.

I didn't know about Jarv down at the Rabbit Hole though :P.

I got it wrong though, I thought Orbital had headlined the Pyramid.
