Overwhelmed and underwhelmed

So, which band overwhelmed you? Was it one you already knew and they blew your mind away? Or maybe one you'd never heard before?

Conversly, who was the biggest disappointment?

My overwhelm was Ray Davies, I've seen him before, and know The Kinks stuff reasonably well, but the guy was superb! Such energy and passion, and he made me cry too. I also really enjoyed Dreadzone, although I only really know "Little Britain" from them.

My underwhelm was Gorillaz. I dunno, I just expected more, although it was great seeing Mark E Smith and Lou Reed.

Yeh I must admit I didnt think Ray Davies was overly rocking.. though I didnt see the entire set so maybe Im not best placed to comment.

I only caught the tail end of Miike Snow but actually seemed pretty good to me.

lcd were very impressive, despite the fact they didnt play most of my favourites. Empire of the sun were also quality.

I was a little underwhelmed by the lightning seeds - his voice aint what it used to be and the sound was a bit all over the place. Still enjoyable though, theyve got too many good songs for it not to be!

Overwhelmed by Muse, thought they were absolutely fantastic and the crowd seemed to love it.

Underwhelmed by Faithless. Not saying they played a bad set, but I was really looking forward to seeing them, but by that time on Sunday I had completely run out of energy. Must have overdone it on Saturday, but a great night it was

Over: Jackson Browne on the Pyramid - thought it was superb. Didnt know much of his stuff and the 4 songs I saw were marvellous.

Under: PSBs - thought it was pish. Sound from Sub Focus in the Glade was titanic and bled straight through the Pet Shop Boys sound.

Loved Stevie, Faithless, Muse and Stranglers but after careful consideration, my Overwhelm was.......wait for it.........The Wurzels. Corny, yes, but just perfect for a sunny, cider drinking Somerset weekend. 35+ years on the guys can still bang out a rousing song (or 10). Pulled in a huge crowd for Avalon too!

Under - sorry, another vote for Gorillaz - just too self-important for my liking despite the parade of big guests.

Overwhelmed - Pet shop boys. Loved them, loved them, loved them!

Underwhelmed - Snoop dog. His bad language put me right off, I am sure even gangstah rappers don't muther f*** every other word.

Absolutely loved Muse - cant wait to see them again in September. Was a bit miffed with the screens at Scissors Sisters in black & White - im short so generally rely on the screen for seeing whats on and just didn't look right.

Wasn't overwhelmed by Muse or Stevie (my personal festival highlights) as such as I'd seen them both recently & already knew how fab they'd be. Was also looking forward to Snoop but wasn't expecting him to be my Friday highlight...

but due to Gorillaz being my vote for underwhelmed, Snoop stood out for me.

I also really enjoyed Paloma Faith & Jackson Browne so will be investing in some of their stuff shortly.

Over: Villagers, Judy Collins (cried four times, just don't tell anyone, OK?), PSB, Slash (actually, now I think about it, don't tell anyone about that either).

Under: Stevie (so shoot me), West Holts generally - promised so much but ultimately I didn't stay long - could just have been the heat and total lack of shade in the day.

    • Geese playing for 1:20 instead of just an hour was a lovely surprise. The energy was great!
    • Oh well that's why then, I assumed it was still the same. Thanks!
    • Think this will be it...I think they are a level above trees.
