Anyone else have their money stolen? My wife and I had our wallets taken out of our tents from literally under out faces in our tents while we slept. Luckily I had hidden some money elsewhere just in case but my poor wife lost everything and it was her first ever night there. I hope the f**kers got found and slapped about a bit before being thrown off!

Thank God a very kind lady in Welfare lent us some money and restored our faith in humanity.

I was camped in the Big Ground. The person camping next to me had his money stolen (from his trouser pocket) while he was asleep on Wednesday night. They left his bank cards and although his camera was removed from his tent it was dumped outside and he found it the next morning (fortunately still working). I don't think anyone came into my tent next door - obviously my revoltingly smelly trainers in the porch put them off coming any nearer - in any case my valuables weren't in a stealable place.

When he reported the theft he was told that there had been lots of similar cases, including women having their handbags snatched from under their pillows while they slept. Yet again, the theiving scum seem to have taken advantage of people on Wednesday night being knackered and having a lot of cash on them. I can't overestimate how important it is for people to learn that sleeping with your cash and phones close by isn't safe enough - they need to be far away from you, in a lock up.

one of our group had their wallet stolen out of her tent whilst asleep, and another had a 'sorry wrong tent' incident. Didn't hear of anything else, althought the stewards in the dairy ground (where we were camped) said that a fair amount of cash was nicked across the board on wednesday.

Free lock ups ! I know hindsight etc etc etc

I dont use them so not preaching and I feel sorry anyone who had the misfortune to have cash/stuff nicked by these thieving shitbags !

I do tend to empty all but £20 from my wallet into my sleeping shorts every night, so if I am that monged that they do visit me and find my wallet then they will probs run with the £20 rather than my fat wadge !

I was curious about this sort of thing this year, so I took a couple of "sample" Blackberry phones I had been given. They are older models (about 18 months) demos, for phone shops to use. They are made using all the same outside parts - even the buttons push in the same way! Same weight and all too! The only way to tell is to try and use them - and then wonder why the image doesn't change on the (very realistic) screen.

I left one under the bed, the other by my head under the clothing there, and they were not even moved. I even left one (face down) uncovered for the Sunday night / Monday - and it still was not touched!

This was in Kidney Mead. Didn't hear anyone else talk about thefts round our way.

I highly recommend people buying one of those money belts... Got one from superdrug for £3.99, and never took it off for the whole festival - there was NO WAY people were gonna manage to get in there without me noticing. Plus, all I took was cash, my bank card, and my front door key, nothing else valuable, which helped...

We were in Hawkswell & had two 'visitors' on Wednesday night. Luckily I woke up both times - once to hear our tent being unzipped & a man standing there - I guess at about 3am. When he realised I'd woken up he zipped the tent back up & ran off.

The second time was maybe about an hour later, not sure if it was the same guy but he was apprehended by security as he was trying to get into our tent - made some lame excuse about how he thought it was his tent.

I had already put all my valuables in the lock up, but still had a bit of cash & camera etc in the bottom of my sleeping bag - just pleased I woke up!

It is sad that some people get robbed and we try our hardest to stop it, but it's a huge site and we can't cover it all 24x7 and I doubt an army of police would be a good thing for glastonbury! The only safe places for cash or valuables is either inside your sleeping bag next to your feet, or in one of the many free, open 24x7, secure lockups on site.

On this note, it's hardly consolation to the guy above who got robbed, but we are getting crime down :)

I'm sorry to hear that!

I don't know where i was camped, i think it was the Dance Field, but they were spot on with the protection..

Got up for a whizz in the middle of the night left my tent open (i keep no valubles in anyway), absolutely bladdered, walked the toilet stumbled back to find 3 people going through my tent, and it was security, and i went 'what is this?', then they realised it was my tent, so was pretty sound!

There were a lot of younger people in Kidney mead / Big Ground. But also there was a very big lock up tent. Before the fest there was a topic about this. Really come on, do not trust that there are not scallys around who go there without money and thieve to pay for it. The are 180,000 people, do the math on averages.

One thing to point out here, which I don't think a lot of people realise, is that 999 works exactly the same inside the festival as it does outside...

If you see a crime in progress (someone rifling through tents), then call it in on 999 and we'll be there as quick as we can - hopefully catching them...

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
