Playing devils advocate, it isn't surprising...

You have 180,000 people all of whom have cash for the weekend, mobile phones, ipods, rings/necklaces etc, all camped in an extremely densely packed environment, where a lot of the time people are drunk.... It's easy pickings and is the reason there are groups of them touring the summer festivals, not just Glastonbury.

I just can't say it enough, to whoever reads this, use the bloody lockups!!

I had someone i my tent on the wednesday night - Id left my shorts out for them to save them rooting about whilst I was in bed. There was no money in them but they nicked the envelope that had my ticket stub and gubbins in it but I found it a few yards away from my tent. Happily as I wandered past the John Peel tent about 7.30 am thursday morning, security had 15 lads led on the floor all positively identified as tent thieves.

I was allowed to shout 'robbing bastards' at them but they wouldn't even let me take photos of the f*ckers. All dead young lads though. Mind you, they all look young at my age

Luckily we had a quite a big camp site and there was always someone awake to keep guard. although on the Thursday night/Friday morning I did see two stereotypical scally's getting done over by the filth a few yards from our site. Didnt hear any major horror stories though

We stayed in Top Webbs Ash (I think), and like others, I slept with my money far end of tent as I have done in the past, right next to me, hidden under clothing, but for the first time (been going most years since 2000), was robbed. It was a real downer, and yes I could have used the lockups, but though my stuff was safe hidden at the far end of the tent, away from the door. Spent the rest of the festivals sleeping with money belt and with two big storage boxes blocking the door and the zips fastened together.

Does anyone know how you stand with the law if you were to cause injury to an intruder i.e if I was to put nails through the base board of my trolley and use it as a door mat or something?... just a thought!

Hundreds of tents in the Dairy and Pennards were raided also robbed the Oxfam site.

Friend had £200 stolen on the Thursday night. Police said it was as bad as the pre-wall days, there were several thousand reports and they had made over 20 arrests. Professional gangs entering or slashing tents early in the morning, told us to sleep with all our belongings in the

bottom of our sleeping bag.

Police were trying to be helpful but could not record our theft, you have to go to the

site near the farm to make an official report and get an incident log number. Many of these crimes are going unrecorded as in most cases money is not insured and folk cannot be

bothered to walk the distance to the police site.

Hiya,

I'd never used the lockups before but had planned to put cash /ipod (can't sleep without it on) in there. However, when I went to, found wasn't actually locker things, or even pigeon holes, but just room with shelves on where cash would just be left on shelf. I know it's a bit silly, but this put me off as all just felt a bit casual. Is this the normal setup?? Are things really safe in there?

Never had anything nicked thankfully but we got talking to a couple who saw a bunch of blokes all dressed in black walk in a group then suddenly disperse and each one went into a different tent. They realised what was happening, shouted and they all ran off. Later I think one of them in their group saw something similar happen, managed to catch one of the thieves and apparently had a half hour 'chat' with the thief before handing him over to security. Apparently security smiled and said well done when they saw that the thief looked like he'd had a bit of a fall!

Normally I hate violence but sometimes I think a few punches and kicks are very much deserved and I was actually pleased to hear that the thief got a bit of a going over before he was handed in.

The lockups are perfectly safe. They are manned 24-7 so things are never left unattended. Small items without a bag are put in an envelope which are sealed in your presence and taped over. You are then asked to sign over the envelope join.

They fill out a form in a receipt book with your name, first line of address, postcode and phone number. They write down a description of your item and record what items you have of value. You get given a copy which has the ticket number which relates to your item. They attach a copy to your bag and the other copy is in their receipt book. When you go to collect you give them your receipt. They ask you to confirm details, name, postcode etc. They then look up in the receipt book to find out the location of your item on the shelf and go and fetch your bag. If you are checking it out you sign on the back of the ticket in the receipt book, they check it corresponds with your original signature on the ticket.

I have used the lockups at several different festivals over several years and they have always been brilliant. In wet years you can be certain that at least your stuff is safe and dry.

Just as bad as thieving.... I lost my camera ok my fault i know...I know more or less the excat spot it must have dropped out of my bag, went back looking within minutes of it being lost...Most bloody annoying thing is i filled in a lost Property form on the Glastonbury web page on Tuesday, and have heard nothing so it looks like who ever picked it up has kept it...So much for all the Glastonbury ethos...Frigging theiving scumbags.   Camera was a pretty good one as well, but more pissed off as it had a 4gb card in it well over half full of pictures and video clips

Don't lose all hope just yet :) There's always an absolute mountain of stuff handed in and it no doubt takes a dog's age to try and match up physical stuff to all the reports of lost items and all that. I'm sure peeps have had missing (and assumed lost for ever) stuff just turn up in the post several weeks/months after the festival in previous years.

Don't give up hope. The Lost Property at Glastonbury gets an absolute mountain of stuff handed in, and then an absolute mountain of claims after the festival....

Matching the property to the claim does take some time (hope you put a good description of the camera and the pics on it as they asked!) and 5 days is not really long enough ;) Give it til the end of July like they advise.

Feel sorry for all you folks, my umpteenth Glasto this year and uptil now had nothing nicked. We were in E23 campervan field this year and we had a bath towel nicked . Also, after returning after a couple of late nights my campervan passenger door was open, there is no way in hell I would have left it like this, even less so on two different occasions, weird! <_< Nothing nicked but how the hell they opened it and why they did'nt nick anything is slightly strange.

REWARD.

There is a reward for the safe return of our disembowelled box of red plonk. The silver bag complete with handy 'down in one tap' was last seen in Arcadia laying forlornly on one of the ravers 'give it large' dance platforms.

Cheers for all your feedback CCCheese, been really good to hear things from your side.

Police at glastonbury have gone from strength to strength (last year for me was bleedin brilliant, police were the happiest punters on site most of the time :)) and considering where we came from (1980s) and the view that was once held it is a massive step forwards.

I didn't go to glastonbury for a few years after 2000, which was a clusterf*ck, came with some serious violence and was probably the most frightening experience of my adult life. The security I feel these days cannot be understated, I'm comfortable enough to take my 16 year old daughter and for that I have the fence, the police and the security teams (who again, were massively improved this year) to thank.

Monday, Mrs. Skidmark and I packed up our stuff to take to the car but because of the heat we decided to leave our tent and custom awning for later foolishly thinking "We're leaving an empty tent, what is there to steal?". On returning our tent was gone. Some nice people camped 20 or so meters away said they saw some "kids" take our gear away but thought they were our kids.

Now this may sound like just another sob story and I dont expect to get my stuff back, I did make an error leaving my stuff unattended and the perps may well have taken my tent in good faith thinking I had abandoned it, but my gear was especially custom and I imagine the gear may well reappear at other festivals.

So please efesters keep an eye out for a tent that looks like a fish. Some of you guys may well have seen it at Glasto this year next to woodsies or last year up Pennards.

Here is a pic of my creation. Peace and love to all(even theivin' barstewards!)

    • Definitely see this as being 'weak' on paper but could see a few bumps up from previous sets at Download (Don Broco, Neck Deep etc).
    • Very different in terms of time of game,  yet remember how excited I was before the first game in Euro 2016 having grown up not sure I would ever see wales in an international tournament. That day scraped a win against Slovakia and was just happy to see wales score and win at a tournament, little did I know we would finish in the top 4. Hope Scottish fans get the same experience.
