Nice to see no one is bothering to discuss the non story of Rooney swearing and instead see the familiar site of mindless bias and personal agendas taking the fore as per usual

What did he actually say? I've heard that he swore but I've not heard what he said.

But "footballer swears on pitch" is - as you say - a non story.

I do think there is a difference between a footballer swearing on the pitch in the usual common way, and one that runs deliberately to a camera and does it for show. Not fussed really, just another sign of the boys class...

I was far more bothered about his awful attempt at a dive and blatant attempt at cheating. Which I guess was ignored due to him scoring a hat-trick...

Worm, if Mason was showing inherent bias at the weekend then why does he award the second pen, and not use that bias to say its out?

The haul down, whilst last man isn't a clear goalscoring opportunity as the balls running through to Kuszczak. Last man doesn't come into it, clear goalscoring opportunity does and (although I'm biased myself) I think there's enough uncertainty as to whether Ba would've ever reached that ball - or been able to even control it if he did considering the trajectory - to say that yellow was the fair decision.

Some would argue that that should have been his 2nd yellow card, and that he should've got booked for the pen, but then causality. Does Vidic practice the dark arts if he knows he's on a yellow?

The one in the second half is arguably where he should've gone, and most games probably would've. In isolation, if just looking at the challenge, then its probably a yellow, but in the context of how Mason had reffed the game, then arguably not. He was card shy all game, he didn't book Hitzlsperger for his sliding tackle from behind on Park in the first half when he had no chance of getting the ball. Didn't book Da Silva for a fair few challenges in around the back of the ankles earlier on in the game etc.

Admittedly got one with the pen, but think there's argument for Vidic personally.

his foot wasn't "well over the ball" - at least not with the movement he made himself. His foot bounced off the upper side of the ball into Nani's leg.

So, IMO it was a bad tackle, but the consequences of it were unlucky rather than the consequence of what Carra was doing directly himself. It was more "one of those things" than a straight red (tho I can understand why some think it should have been a red).

Neil, was something along the lines of

"what? what? f**king what?".

Uncalled for, and unprofessional, but blokey on 5live on Saturday was saying Utd should get fined £1m and Rooney banned for the rest of the season.

until they start handing out meaningful fines by having them related to a player's or manager's pay-packet they're meaningless fines - so from that angle I'm all for that £1M fine idea. :)

But in the context of how things are done right now it's ... erm .... slightly () .... over the top.

and not just in football too. why's a professional footballer going to give a shit if he's caught speeding at 120mph with the fines that get dished out.

yup. There's some countries in the world that have laws that relate a person's fines to their wages - which would be a great idea for the UK too.

    • I think it's a conscious decision this year not to publicize it beforehand. Not sure why. Maybe they have even removed the concept of a passport altogether and have something else... I like it because it helps me find parts of the program that don't function as slots in the timetable.
    • Still see Beach House with a new Album    and Tame Impala and The Strokes.
    • Yeah the rumour I heard is Glastonbury + Spurs stadium, the guy who posted it seems to be on the ball most of the time as well.   He's also now put one up for Sam fender summer shows
