Great work for United though.

Wouldn't have even got £30M for him given the scenario they were put in, it was clear there were few suitors and given the circumstances I think it would have been impossible to reject anything reasonable.

Sell him in the summer now when the boot is on their foot and not the buyers foot and get real money for him to help pay off those PIK loans.

The fans won't take him back, not the hardcores anyway. Don't think too many of the players will be wanting to pass to him!

No way. If he did that he'd be severely limiting the number of clubs he could sign for. A lot more teams can afford a 20m transfer fee (1 year left on contract) to a 50m+ transfer fee (5 years)

Money will be involved, probably in the shape of a 200k a week contract rather than a promise of increased investment.

excellent. Then the rest of us can spend the next five years laughing at them a little bit more than we did before. :D

In which case they'd have been better to let him go.

Not if he spends half the season out with a phantom ankle injury and gets flogged for £50M in the summer instead of £25M.

Hmmmm .... unless there's a firm arrangement with Rooney to do that, I wouldn't have thought he'd have been dumb enough (or more precisely, his agent) to sign without guarantees that he won't be marginalised.

"I said on Wednesday the manager's a genius and it's his belief and support that convinced me to stay.""I'm delighted to sign another deal at United. I've spoken to the manager and the owners and they've convinced me this where I belong.""I am signing a new deal in the absolute belief that the management, coaching staff, board and owners are totally committed to making sure United maintains its proud winning history - which is the reason I joined the club in the first place. ""I am sure the fans over the last week have felt let down by what they have read and seen. But my position was from concern over the future. The fans have been brilliant with me since I arrived and it's up to me through my performances to win them over again."

my take, gentlemens agreement - they'll let him leave next summer if he still thinks the club isn't ambitious enough.

you know, just like Fabregas will be off to Barca next summer :P

edit: it'll be like the ronaldo situation. Man U will now be in a position to get more £££ if he does decide to leave.

According to Wenger only yesterday, Cesc isn't going in the summer. It's something I take with a pinch of salt, but at the same time I reckon Wenger's less likely to come out with something like that than other managers.

It's going to be very interesting to see how the United crowd react to Rooney now. I'm sure they'll want to let him know that they feel let down but after that it's a bit of a catch 22. With the size of his contract, it's going to stop other players being signed. So do you get behind him despite what he's done, or to you stop supporting him and not get the best out of him?

What a way to destroy his reputation as a footballer. Just read that he was offered £160,000 a week back in august and he turned that down.

So for the sake of another £20,000 a week (which he OBVIOUSLY needs!!) he has lost all respect from all figures of the football world, and more importantly the Utd fans. I for one will not see him in the same light again .. Even if he were to score a hatrick in the Champions League Final. He was well on his way to legend status at the club and he's thrown it all away.

This is the worst outcome for many Utd fans. No doubting his ability but nobody should treat the club the way he has done. I would have been happier to see him go, and used the money to buy another great striker.

This proves it was obviously about money, as how can the clubs 'ambition' have changed in 2 days. Pathetic!

It's no different to what brought him to Utd in the first place. If you buy a mercenary, you get a mercenary.

Just because a player has done the same to Utd as they do to get to Utd, it doesn't mean anything has changed. It's always been like that - it's just Man Utd fans have been playing emnu with the facts.

    • So we've signed a Horny Czech, and Bruno's turned up the training camp instead of doing Isak's nonsense.   Still not sure I believe Bruno's staying mind, but glad he's not doing the sh*t Arsenal are asking him to do to lower the price. If they want him they can stump up.   My suspicion is that whichever of Madrid/Man City don't start next season with Rodri will go for Bruno, and one of them will come in while Arsenal have f**ked about trying to get him cheap, which while I absolutely want to keep him, would still be good enough bants and a nice middle finger that I wouldn't mind it so much. I just wish we'd report Arsenal for tapping up.   If rumours are to be believed, we're after 2 more defensive signings, and an attacking player, on top of a replacement if Bruno leaves, having already signed a LW, 2 CMs, a GK, and some youth players. Huge churn, but apart from a couple of Bazou Toure's games for Ivory Coast at the world cup, I've not seen any of them play. Over 2 summers we've basically changed our entire team aside from the CBs.
    • I think the level of headliners Bloodstock get is varied    There's been bands who have gone on to play Download in quite a low spot like Meshuggah, Behemoth, Opeth etc.    Then they've had years like 2025 where you can argue that all three headliners are download main stage sub level    Knocked Loose right now i'd argue are 3rd down on main/opus headliner level while EC and FFDP are borderline main stage sub
