When we match Newcastle's achievement of winning the league with four games to spare, Aldershot will be promoted to our sixth-least-important game.

Only four games to spare? Useless, useless.

The Shots had five spare for their last promotion... a full 15 points plus enough goal difference to ensure that with five games to go they were going up.

It's based on form, and the last few times they have been knocked out in the 1st play off. Where as Lyon (porbably the weakets of top group) and have been going further than that.

Glad spurs are through. As a welshman great to see bale continuing his amazing form, will be interesting to see how he copes against a top level (non british) european side. I think by the end of the season if he stays fit he could be considered one of the elite british footballer. I hope its just not a purple patch. I think however spurs need to be very lucky with the draw if they are going to progress to the knockout stage. Looking at the seeding, cant see them finishig above any top seed. Maybe shaktar, marseille or panathanikos but i dont think its a foregone conclusion.

I'd have said Arsenal were the weakest in that group personally, then Lyon/Milan based on last season.

Paul konchesky!!! Liverpool really are setting their sights low. He should be a squad player for a mid table team. NOt one competing for the champions league.

Konchesky will do alright for Liverpool, they've got Aurelio too for that position but he obviously has fitness problems.

Hardly an inspiring signing but certainly then sticking Agger there, and there arn't many left backs around at the moment with proven premier experience...

Depends what your aspirations are, I dont see Man U, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal bidding for these types of player. To me what sets liverpool behind their rivals is the quality of cover outside the first 11, signing konchesky wont change my mind about this. Who next jason roberts, ryan nelsen and matthew etherington??

Konchesky is certainly a much better left back then anything Liverpool had under Benitez that I can recall. He's been a part of the best non-top 4 premiership defence for the past 2 years and they have Aurelio as cover, while it's not the most glamourous signing I think it's not really a position Liverpool should be too worried about in terms of getting back in the champions league.

While I agree cover is definitely their problem, emphasised with N'gog as their no.2 striker, I think their defence is ok.

I disagree, Man Utd already have a far better squad and (unlike liverpool) have actually produced some of their own squad player over recent years rather than having to buy them all. As Man Utd already have pretty solid squad players, it makes more sense to gamble on players who could end up making a big difference.
