Park Stage - Friday - Special Guests

Guest Porcelina

Recommended Posts

My first time at Glastonbury this year and I always hear and see how amazing the Park Stage and the whole area is, so I'm aiming to spend a bit of time there this year.

The Friday 'Special Guests' slot doesn't seem to clash with anybody worth seeing so I'm planning on seeing whoever it is regardless.

Who can we realistically expect?

I was thinking Band of Horses or Yeasayer, or on a slightly more optimistic note, somebody like Van Morrison or John Mayer, or an extra Phoenix or Willie Nelson set.

I'm not aware of the history really, other than Franz Ferdinand and The Dead Weather, so I could be way off the mark, hence wondering what everyone's thoughts were.

Who thinks this slot was originally going to be a Gorillaz performance? That is, before U2 had to pull out..

Guess we'll never know now

Back to the question - I'm not overly fussed about who takes the slot.. but the Coral would be a lovely addition!

are we not to expect crystal castles on the saturday? they have stated they are playing twice, sunday dance stage, saturday unconfirmed but only space is the park?

i mean i quite like them but inbetween stornoway and laura marling?

ideally the strokes or the libertines, money stops the latter although i think something will happen with carl barat

or the strokes.... im disappointed they have not been booked........... i wonder how possible?

mike snow? who is that?

i like crystal castles but not a 'special guest'

This tweet from Mikey Eavis is making me excited for somebody special, I know Emily spouts a load of crap half of the time but they both seem to agree on this one!

Whoever it is, I'm going to be there. I think out of the 'huge' band possibilities, there's Arcade Fire, Coldplay and The Strokes.

EDIT: Scrap that, The Strokes are in Europe on the Friday.

You're right it is extremely unlikely, we can dream though. I saw KOL at Reading last year and I got the impression that they've grown a bit sick of the big shows and all the hype surrounding them. Maybe they fancy a smaller show at the festival which massively helped them out in 2008. I can't remember how the timings of the various stages work but 3 from top on the Friday includes Vampire Weekend; Florence and Mumford sons. The latter will draw a massive crowd I think. Plus if they kept the special guests very quiet....overcrowding could be kept to a minumum.

I'm just trying to convince myself now. I'll be there just in case it is KOL or the Libertines.

    • I'm British so it very much would apply for me.   I mean, it's a moot point as I don't have tickets so will not be in town for this, but I've heard reports of lengthy queues and given I remember Lisbon Airport having a long queue at arrivals even pre-EES when I went in 2023, I seem to guess it might be quite the wait, depending on flight paths.   Certainly, the worst I've had pre-EES was a 45 minute wait for a stamp at Valencia Airport in Spain, where 4 flights to non-EU destinations in quick succession were placed one after the other. So I can't say I'm enthusiastic about what's in store. Or you know. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.
    • Out of interest keep seeing messages saying last 12 hours etc… to buy you full weekend tickets.  Whats that about? Do they take them off sale early?
    • I reckon it'll be deftones and Biffy clyro
    • If Friko are replacing The Beths that's a very rare example of a band being replaced by another band who I'm equally eager to see. Great news.
