bugger to the football, im not english and dont bother too much with the footie these days............however i am welsh, follow my rugby, and wales play new zealand at 8.30am on the sat, so no bands on that time so where they gonna show the egg chasing i say :-p

It won't be 100,000 that watch the match.

Only 65,000 watched the match that got shown a few years ago when there wasn't entertainment happening at the same time.

So I'd guess that it'll be perhaps 40,000 at most that will watch an England match on the Saturday or Sunday, if there's actually an England match on then.

Glastonbury are the ones with the experience to deal with these sorts of things. Given that they very rarely get such things wrong, and that the consequences come back on them if they do, then I reckon it's very unlikely there'll be an issue.

Football at Glasto has come a long way since I and a 100 or so others crowded round a portable in a tent to watch Ireland vs Mexico in 1994! Ironically, there's too much football now, so I'm unlikely to seek out a game at Glasto...the summers are for switching off from the game

I think when dealing with security issues like this you have to think about worse case scenario. Eg if its Germany then I think the people who want to watch may easily double.

Surely the cinema will also be used to take the pressure of the park area?

i love football even though im a blackburn season ticket holder....

but i hate the england team, and i hate the idea of it dominating elements of the festival

can someone confirm anything? the tbas are most irritating, are they for football?

also from my recollection there are no massive screens actually on the park stage

When my partner went to his first Glastonbury in 2004 he was saying "If they don't show the football I'll have to drive into the nearest town and find a pub."

Several Glastonburies later he's more "If it's not on, I can always find out the score later" because he knows he'll be having too good a time to feel that he's missing out by not seeing the football.

Having said that - for both of us, football at Glastonbury is something we really look forward to - it's brilliant to watch the game with such a great crowd. For me it's not about "I've got to see the football", it's about loving watching football with Glastonbury people, rather than some of the morons I usually have to deal with when watching at grounds and pubs during the winter. It's something I really look forward to in a way as a Glastonbury thing, more than a football thing. I think that non football people don't really get that - maybe almost like "How could you go and watch Scouting for Girls" at Glastonbury when theres so much proper music on? The answer is that people like different stuff and the joy of Glastonbury is that theres room for all of it.

I don't have a clue who is playing - where they are playing - when they are playing or what they are playing for all I know I will be avoiding it like the plague including shifting the TV set in our Village tent as far away as possible from where I will be working.

might be a good idea to have it on in several places? like, the Cinema, Williams Green and the Park all at the same time? Neither the cinema or Williams Green have massive capacity so i dont think those three is too much of an over estimate, get a few thousand at WG like the Rugby last year, which I watched (and yes it was packed but never any problems with safety) and it'd take the pressure off the Park and areas around it?

Obviously this is all moot coz they'll have it all planned already, but it'd be a good idea I would've thought

If it's England v Germany then expect a huge crowd for it. That would be great watching Gerrard balloon his penalty over the bar on the big screens to send the Germans through!

Firstly, I cant wait to watch the game and reckon it is going to make for a top festival and making it even more diverse that normal. As people have been saying, not everyone will be fussed but those that want to cheer along their national team in a world cup which is only every 4 years will go down to watch it.

The atmosphere will be amazing well if we win, and there are no idiots that spoil it for everyone else...there always is isn't there!

I know Glasto is a music festival and showing it on the big screens isn't taking that away from anyone. There are so many other non-musical things going on through-out the week, plus its only 1-2 hours on the Wed afternoon, so its not really steeping on anyones toes..

Secondly, I dont think you need to worry as Glasto has been going since the dawn of time so the amazing project management team would have planned for everything and anything.

June is really gonna be a cracking month with the world cup and Glasto!! Not long now!!

I'm totally against it being shown on a bigger stage though. People pay their money for it to go on music acts. To oust 2-3 expensive acts to show a football game would make me question where our money is going. Sure, have the football so people can see it if they want, but not at the expense of big acts.
