Here's an excerpt from an interview with Phil Miller (festival operations director) that suggests all is well in hand:

"This year also brings Phil one of those challenges that only comes around every so often: Football. With England expected to play a critical World Cup game on either Saturday or Sunday - and all the stages booked for acts - the festival of course needs a plan for the inevitable frenzy of red and white:

"We've got a dedicated space for it - just west of the Dairy Unit, away from the main venues - with room for 40,000"."

Should pretty much deal with it I reckon.

1. England have not qualified for the knockout stages.

2. After that Japan game I have doubts that they will.

3. Glastonbury Festivals Ltd have forty years experience of Crowd Management and Safety.

4. The original poster is worrying about nothing.

You mean the same Glastonbury that put the rugby on the video screens in Williams Green last year causing chaos around that area?

Or the Glastonbury that put Maximo Park on in the Queens Head on Thursday last year causing one enormous crush in the tent?

Playing devils advocate a little as I agree that they get most decisions right when it comes to crowd management, but the attendance levels for the football on Saturday (or Sunday) will be very hard to judge as the comments in this thread prove.

Kev

The two things you mention were firsts.

Glastonbury showing football is not a first.

And that's why they won't mess up.

There is a monster big screen going into a field (I think Paines or Dairy Ground area) with a 50,000 capacity which should be enough for demand. And a bit of atmosphere.

This is a post to 100% believe as accurate! :)

So there you have it - plenty of room for the numbers who want to watch, because it won't be more than 50,000, as only 65,000 watched the last big match at Glastonbury, and that was when there was no entertainment on at the same time.
