NASA has called a press conference tomorrow to announce a significant astrobiological finding that will impact the search for evidence of extraterrestrial life. Unlikely they've found life but this is being hyped as a major news conference. Some theories of what it might be ae below:

Wasn't intrested enough to read it, pretty much skimmed the title.

So it's American and not alien then, unless it's an illegal alien and need to be deported before they start stealing jobs & women.

yeah, the salient point is that it breaks the golden rules for life as we know it. This opens the possibilities of life on other planets being radically different from life on earth. so it increases the chances of life existing out there.

what they're still yet to find out is if these bacteria come from a seperate second genesis to the rest of life on earth, or if they are some kind of strange branch of evolution from the genesis that the rest of life comes from. If its the former then its massive because it means the conditions needed for life to start aren't as unique and flukey as we might have otherwise thought. If its evolved from the same genesis as us then its not as big, but its still pretty cool.
