Is it as special after the first time?

I was blown away last year at my first Glasto and while I'm giddy with excitement this time round, I can't help thinking it may not compare.

Some on here who have been a few times seem quite "meh" about it sometimes as if it's become routine and others have claimed to "done with it" and talking about being off to new pastures.

Can it be as special after the first, mind-blowing experience or am I creating an unreal expectation that will leave me feeling let down?

It must be amazing to do a festival like Glastonbury every year, I'd love to do it but it depends on what career I go into. I said I would do it with Leeds Festival but every year I feel a little more out of place there. I think next year's will be my last (fifth in a row).

I'm a first timer at Glasto this year and I've heard so much praise for it that I worry it won't live up to mine and everyone's expectations.

I love it every year, there's enough to still be discoverd, things change and as being said you get better prepaired, know where you can get a good quick shower f.e. and meeting old friends like bars and places you love... :P

Like a relationship maybe, at first the falling in love and with years the deep deep love...

I am still blown away every year, you forget how big it really is, especially from the Pyramid at night when you see the 'city lights.' Each year there is something new to experience and special moments to treasure. You may discover an area that you didn't get round to seeing before, find a new favourite place to eat, drink or pass the time of day.

I am dreading 2012 the next fallow year, we got married on 24 June 2006 as there was no Glastonbury we thought it was a great time to for us to make our vows, and at the same time enabling us to celebrate yearly at our favourite place!

I hope to go for many more years and watch the festival change as I am sure it will again and and again and again and again............... Its what keeps is special. :P And I always cry when we leave.

My first time went way to quickly, I was nervous and really not sure what I was doing, I think the person I was with was very dissatisfied by it all. Second time around I felt so much for confident and new where everything was,lt was a far more satisfying experience, can't wait to come again this year

It will be utterly sensational again. Without a doubt.

People saying they are "done with it" are usually people who have to give it up due to family reasons and who are trying to kid themselves that they are ready to give it up anyway.

Quite a few people I've spoken to have all agreed when I've said the second is the best. It's an amazing experience every year and it's what gets me through the other 51 weeks of the year. But with the second one, you aren't completely overwhelmed by the place (though it's still fresh and new) and the people and have more of an idea of where you're going and what you're doing.

I think when you're more confident finding your way around and pacing yourself for five days you are gonna stress less and spend more time enjoying yourself. So yeah, some bits might get old - I lose interest in the Pyramid lineup more and more every year but there's always gonna be new stuff to discover.

It's special for different reasons.

Whoever it was compared it to a relationship was right.

It's lovely to pull a gorgeous minx at the student disco.

It's lovely to make friends with her and start seeing her more often.

It's lovely to make a home with her and settle down for the next 70 years, always learning new things about her.

They're all "special" but for different reasons. And Glastonbury's the same. Of course I'll never recreate the sense of wonder when I first saw the place in 95. But both the familiarity and the changes are great.

Of course, she might run off with the milkman one day...

yes, it's as special. 2008 was my fave so far and that was my 5th. meeting new people, exploring new places, the music, the atmosphere. nothing like it on earth.

i'm dreading the next fallow year already! i went on a boating holiday in late june 2006 so that helped a little.

For me, the first one will always be the best. I knew very little about the festival and had only gone because a friend had offered me a chance to work at the last minute. I had no expectations, and no idea what I was letting myself in for. A major plus point was that the guys I went with were definitely not glastobaters and I wasn't exposed to a barrage of predictions about how great it was going to be - I just got to find out for myself.

Since then, I've been a few times, and although there'll always be new things to discover, I don't get the same feeling of having absolutely no idea where I am and no idea what might be round the next corner. For this reason, I try to avoid glastobating in the run up to each Glasto - hopefully, I'll get more of a buzz when Glasto suddenly punctuates the humdrum reality of my laughable 'existence' (plus I don't want to ruin it for the people I bring each year who've never been.)
