I find this idea that kings of leon only got big from releasing a catchy song amusing. They were having number 1 albums and headlining glastonbury before sex on fire was released. Gaslight anthem may have a few catchy songs but so have the likes of ash, feeder and supergrass none who became the next big band in the world.

Them having the same slot as billy talent and all time low seems about right, i think if all 3 released an album on monday it would be all time low who sold the most. Gaslight anthem have a cult fanbase but bands dont headlie festivals on this basis. I dont see evidence of the media brainwashing people to like the band.

I think in thinking of who will be the next big thing, the best option is to choose someone that you dont like which means your not influenced by personal bias. I would say you me at six but hope im very wrong.

I love Gaslight Anthem, got into them after seeing that Bruce Springsteen performance on BBC3. They seem to have genuine potential, first album wasn't amazing though in parts but it'll be interesting to see where they go with the next one. Remind me of Kings of Leon ever so slightly.

If that was actually Sunday's line up, I would save relentlessly to get a ticket, considering Foo fighters and The Offspring are two of my favourite bands, and having them on the same stage would be literally amazing for me. Though, The Offspring I doubt would support, they would much rather headline. Being more realistic, without being biased torwards a favourite of mine and being anti-MCR, I would put The Offspring headlining the Friday line up as they really deserve to headline, and put MCR supporting the Foo's on the Sunday. My opinion, though otherwise a good list.

It would also fit the whole Less than Jake and AFI thing you have going on the Friday, too.

Why wouldnt they support foo fighters, they supported the darkness when they were more popular than they are now. I am sure they would rather headline but their dwindiling commercial success means they are hardly in a strong negotiating position. Theres nothing to suggest they would move up the line up, if anything they will be headling in the opposite direction.

What has immense got to do with it, surely that is down to personal opinion and has no baring on headlining festivals. The offsprings last 2 albums got to 27 and 39, they didnt headline the festival at the peak, why would they now?? The download comparison also doesnt hold up as several acts have headlined download and played lower in reading/leeds. As for foo fighters whether their popularity will decrease is debatable but what is not is that in terms of popularity they are on a completely different league to the offspring. The next foo figthers album will probably sell more in a day than the next offspring one in a year.

When i said soon i mean offsprings next album. Maybe they should break up for a couple of years and reform. It worked for blink...

The rest about Foo Fighters I agree with you. I never had any doubt they wouldnt headline. I just cant see why they are popular. They is nothing WOW about them. I'd rather lissen to Bloc Party! Okay thats a lie. But if next year is Foos, MCR and Rage - Weakest headliners ever. Rage is a good act, but FR shouldnt repeat headliners this soon.

Actually, on a non biased opinion, their recent album was much, much better than 'Splinter', and thats coming from a fan. Also better than 'Conspiracy of One', too. Lets be honest though, I cannot see how the popularity has hit rock bottom. Looking at your last few posts, they have been all for the slagging down of the band but has provided no real reason to why except based on this so called 'popularity'.

The band has never really been loved here the UK, even I know that. But on a global level, there is no way they are the most unpopular band around. Unless you believe MCR much deserve a Reading headline, then thats your opinion dude :P.

Where have I slagged the band off?WHere did I say they are the least popular band around??? I said they couldnt headline the main stage anymore which I stand by. You may prefer their most recent album but if a lot of people were put off by the one before added to the fact they get little media airplay then a lot of people probably wont get the opportunity to see if it is an improvement or not.

I said they could headline the nme tent. This is a tent in recent years headlined by the manic street preachers who at their peak were far more popular than the offspring and who still get good record sales. Why would offspring headline the main stage when manics couldnt? The reason I have focussed on popularity is because that is the number 1 factor a festival organiser uses when picking its headliners.

You say the band have never been loved in the uk but had a number 1 singles and 2 albums which did pretty well. If the offspring were going to headline it would have been late 90s/early 00, the time has now passed for them. A lot of bands I love such as ash, feeder, super furry animals have all passed their commerical peak. Doesnt mean I cant enjoy their music but I still have to accept they wont command the same slots they once did.

As for who deserved to headline out of my chemical romance or offspring, I would rather watch offspring of the 2. However if I was an organiser I am certain mcr would sell more tickets.
