Another thing they need to do is get rid of these ridiculous huge wages for what if effectively part time work. Its embarassing when you see the england manager getting paid double the next highest. And ten times as much as some managers that have got further. I would offer 1 million pound a year salary maximum, if that puts off mercenaries than so be it. I would also only give 2 year contracts. It doesnt matter as fabio wont resign and after the sven and mclaren debacles the fa wont want to look stupid by giving someone else a huge payout to do nothing.

I think harry redknapp would be a disaster but shearer even worse. He knows nothing about football tactics, he also thinks the most important attribute for a player is not skill, tactical awareness, but passion. He hardly set the world alight at newcastle and is in love with all the big name players. I would be tempted to look at the coaches of the u19, u17 teams and see if theres any talent there. They may be more likely to give youth a chance. Do you need club management experience to succeed at international level? Im not so sure.

Predictions for last 16

Holland v slovakia, Dutch win withoug breaking much sweat

Brazil v Chile, easy brazil win

germany v england, too close to call, I think if they played each other 10 times both would win 5, will say germany just to be disfferent

argentina v mexic, narrow argentina win, a lot harder than people will expect

uruguay v south korea, uruguay by a couple of goals

usa v ghana, 50/50 could be ghana on penalties

japan v paraguay, paraguay narrow win

spain v portugal, think/hope spanish narrow win, but portugals defence wll cause spain big problems.

Crouch and defoe playing probably would have resulted in england topping the group but still going out the first decent team they played. They are good against average international teams but do not have the potential to begame changers in big games. Is it worth investing in these players to carry on with more of the same. I would rather gamble on a young player who may turn out to be a star. I like joe cole but surely this is just more of the "we have loads of central midfielder, which shall we play on the left" problem that england always have. These types always drift to the middle and leave cole exposed.

Have i heard this correctly---that the FA renewed F. Capps contract just before this tournament?

Pretty much, he had a 4 year contract with a get out clause after 2 years for both sides. His agent stirred up interest from inter and England rose to the bait and pais him to get rid of the clause. I think its the same as how they used to give sven a pay rise every time a club was interested in him.

I'm wondering when FIFA are going to ban France from FIFA - today before the match, hopefully. :P

After all, one of FIFA's regulations is "no govt interference", yet France has sent their Sports Minister to SA to have a word with the team.

Any other team but France, it'd be a ban. Given FIFA's love for France, they'll probably award them some extra points to ensure they're in the next round. ;)

Blimey, who'd have thought it. The French govt have been warned by FIFA to butt out.

Hmm...the premier league are making noise about wanting to take over the England team from the FA to avoid shit like this again. Not sure why though as apart from hiring the managers what else are they going to do differently?

Moan like f**k about England's activities affecting their own as they always do, and then f**k over the England team for their benefit of their clubs? ;)

Plus get their hands on the money? ;)

It ain't going to happen anyway. Wembley is tied to the FA, with the cost of building it being earnt back via the England team. So they need to ensure they have control of the England team else the whole thing falls apart.

Each time the footballing authorities fragment it's to the detriment of the game as a whole, and this would be just another instance on the road to the death of the game.

I'm ironically amused to have read this morning that former Media Culture & Sport minister Andy Burnham has come out and said money is ruining the game - not something he was prepared to say or act over when he was in the position to do so. ;)

Its funny imagine the priority list of the FA if they took over the england squad. Success of england would be half way up the list below compensation for clubs in terms of injuries, the right for clubs to pull players out of squads and enforced 45 minutes maximum for players during friendlies.

I dont think anything the FA did would've made a difference. Most of Englands players are average and wouldnt get in any of the other top teams. Simple as that really.

David Blaine is gutted because his record for doing f**k all in a box for 42 days has been broken...... by Wayne Rooney.

    • So we've signed a Horny Czech, and Bruno's turned up the training camp instead of doing Isak's nonsense.   Still not sure I believe Bruno's staying mind, but glad he's not doing the sh*t Arsenal are asking him to do to lower the price. If they want him they can stump up.   My suspicion is that whichever of Madrid/Man City don't start next season with Rodri will go for Bruno, and one of them will come in while Arsenal have f**ked about trying to get him cheap, which while I absolutely want to keep him, would still be good enough bants and a nice middle finger that I wouldn't mind it so much. I just wish we'd report Arsenal for tapping up.   If rumours are to be believed, we're after 2 more defensive signings, and an attacking player, on top of a replacement if Bruno leaves, having already signed a LW, 2 CMs, a GK, and some youth players. Huge churn, but apart from a couple of Bazou Toure's games for Ivory Coast at the world cup, I've not seen any of them play. Over 2 summers we've basically changed our entire team aside from the CBs.
