As Jimmy Buffet says " what are we going to do when the Volcano blows!". The last time this monster went up it lasted 2 years ( or two Glastonburys) and there were no planes to ground in those days. I know its a long way away yet but imagine the line up if it was UK based groups only.....or those within a train ride from Europe ( ie Muse).....I would take on a whole new look. :P

Suggestions?

We need a "it's doomed " thread! We'v had Pig Flu and Bird Flu, now we have Volcano!

Back on topic though, would be VERY interesting to see what the line-up would look like with only UK based bands. Headline wise, Muse and U2 would be fine we'd just have to replace Stevie with, Iron Maiden perhaps.

Edited to add, like the Jimmy Buffet reference, perhaps he could sail over and play an afternoon slot

Would be gutting losing Stevie and LCD Soundsystem etc, but I could do a glasto with just English based bands fine.

....what I'm more concerned about is May 11th and 12th; meant to be seeing Joanna Newsom and Pavement. Only 3 weeks away.

Actually I was wondering about that the other day as its perfectly possible the flight ban may last far longer than expected.

While its true ' the wind direction will change ' its also true that it may change back again.

Its also possible that it will affect UK based groups as well because their equipment may be spread all over the place.

Time will tell but no matter what happens provided I don't drop down dead I will still be working at Glasto this year.

If it goes on much longer, they're going to have to develop some sort of technology to make flying through it safe. Yes, that sounds expensive, but the airlines and other businesses are losing millions every day they can't fly.

I'm supposed to be flying to Nice in the South of France next Saturday for a week's holiday. Yesterday I reckoned no chance. But tonight I'd put it at 50/50. Lots of pressure from the airlines and airports who are claiming that the flight ban is an over-reaction.

For sure by Glasto time contingency plans will be well in place.

Have you all heard the reason why jets can't fly through the stuff? Pretty nasty:

- the pumice dust is so abrasive that flying through it at any speed is like sandblasting, making the windshield opaque and taking the paint off the fuselage

- if it gets in the engines, the temperature will turn it to molten glass which will then cool on the turbines until the increased mass makes the engine implode

- if the plane has any moisture on the outside, it will react with the water to form a strong caustic substance which can in turn cause damage to window seals and the like

Nanny state? Hmmm. I don't agree with the whole "absolute zero risk" system of law/Govt we have at the moment but this is serious shit. I wouldn't get on the plane with any chance of hitting the stuff.

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
