Coldplay

Me and my friends are really hoping to see Coldplay again this year. I have read that they may play a 'secret' gig over the weekend. But that's no bl**dy good. We don't want to find out after that we missed it! What do they mean by 'secret' and how do you get to know the 'secret' in advance?!!

Anyway, does anyone know if and when they may confirm? Surely the Eavises would love them to be there (being such good mates, and it being the 40th year, etc.). Any thoughts?

Think there was some suggestion that they might be opening the Pyramid stage on Friday.

There might be something on here beforehand, there might be a few clues in the Daily Glastonbury free newspaper on the day that it happens or there might be nothing and it'll be a matter of luck.

I am 110% they will be making an appearance at some stage! This is, of course, based on no actual knowledge on my part!!

My fingers are crossed that they appear.

I like them, but more for my mate who's coming to only his 2nd festival, and has stayed away since 2007 (the mud put him off). He's not a massive music fan but loves Coldplay and it'd make his year to see them live.

So for my mate as well as for me - I hope they play!

I've given up praying for whats left of Led Zeppellin and Pink floyd

but you never know - this could be the best chance for mega suprises??

Then again, I have heard reports that the Kaiser Chiefs played a secret gig at Leeds under another name once, and people only realised it was them when they started playing!

Most 'secret' slots are in no way secret. Crooked Vultures at Reading last year EVERYONE knew about by Thursday. It didn't help that TCV played Leeds the day before, so everyone who had friends at Leeds found out about it. Tis the problem with having twin festivals.

The only way a set can be truly secret is if a band turns up with a guitar and plays in some tiny stage (Like Johnny Depp did last year, and didn't Arctic Monkeys play a surprise acoustic set somewhere one year?). Chances are if it's a major stage and it takes planning, everyone will know about it.

On the other hand, I do think Coldplay's exact set time could be kept a secret. Usually the secrets are outted by the middlemen (even the tour bookers for the band or the lower down booking staff at Glasto). Coldplay are so close to the Eavis' they could easily organise something directly without using the middlemen who would leak the info. It does seem everyone's expecting Coldplay to play though, so if there's a mysterious hole in the stage times or some obviously made up band name people will flock to that stage.

I'm not a massive fan of Coldplay but I'd go see them if they were playing in an earlier slot and no one was clashing with them.

i think we've been teased in the past with Coldplay-are-going-to-play-a-special-guest-slot rumours and wonder if it's all nonsense this year too.

in 2003, some radio dj said something about "you'll see them at Glasto" after a Chris Martin interview, and EFests had them for a while as a 'SR' under Radiohead on the saturday.

then last year, with the whole announcement of a '4th headliner' and then eventual quiet denial, we don't know who it was (and Neil still refuses to tell us) but i still think it was coldplay who were considering the before-Bruce slot on the saturday.

so, i'm prepared for this to be another bad rumour...however i am 60% thinking it will come through this time....either friday morning, early afternoon, or right before U2

[realizes that by writing this i may be 'outing' myself as a Coldplay fan. well, i did love the 'Rush to Blood' album i must say, i thought '02 on the pyramid was a terrific set, but nowadays they do annoy me and i haven't got into any of their records since...but...i'd see them at glastonbury if they played. probably the only place i'd see them again at, as the type of crowds they get to their shows nowadays would probably make me feel completely out of place]

Caught the Viva tour in Brisbane - feckin awesome show, they have really grown into their music on the last album.....would I see them at Glasto? If nothing else was going on perhaps
