yeah i can see where he is coming from. but then say it happened to radiohead this year (radiohead incidently where i felt less safe than in a pearl jam crowd), would he close the door on them?

quite possibly not - there's a long history of sad incidents happening for the rowdier bands, without the same history for the less rowdier bands.

So from that angle, if something happened at a Radiohead show it would be able to be put down to a one-off, very unlikely to ever happen again. Where as for rowdier bands, we all know that it'll happen again somewhere somewhen soon(ish).

By blacklisting a whole genre from a festival that embraces all aspects of music? Frankly I'd rather take the risk.

He's not blacklisted a whole genre. The line-ups prove that. There's a very different risk between having a small rock band to a major one.

And while you might be happy to go thru life knowing that your choices had brought about someone's death, I suspect you're very much in the minority with that, with most others choosing the safer option .... to put it in some sort of 'danger perspective', I'd guess that drink driving is far safer on a statistical basis.

Me too, was really scared to go back to the front at a gig for a while after that. Airbag was ok, but in 2+2=5, at the "You have not been paying attention!" bit it just went wild. I'm no small guy, I'm 6 ft tall at least, and I was lifted clean off my feet, just spent the rest of the song hovering, crammed between people.

There were a few older women around me, about half my size, and they just disappeared under everyone else.

I think what made it worse was that I didn't expect it at a frickin' Radiohead gig! The Glasgow Green gig in 2008 was fine in comparison!!!

I'm "better" now though, thank god, but I took a hit to the nerves that night!

I would say that heavier bands are blacklisted from glasto, just as an example Metallica saying they really want to play one year.. can you see it happening?

I would argue against them being heavy, more in the utter crap genre but yeah if bands like that can play then i say bring in some decent rock/metal/prog the likes of Porcupine Tree, Co&Ca etc not asking for Architects or Dillinger, just get a bit more variety in there

I went to the first Hyde Park Calling event in 2006 when Glasto wasn't on and was *very* pleasantly surprised. It was way better than I expected it to be, a really bl**dy excellent weekend I thought It's not Glasto by any stretch of the imagination and not really a festival at all so to speak either but absolutely no complaints at all from me. Great bands, good mix of peeps, very good atmosphere, saw no probs whatsoever, food and drink more than acceptable, Woodefords most excellent real ale bar , good organisation in general and so on. Even the prices weren't too bad considering it's in the middle of London, well apart from the programmes etc. which were an unbelievable rip off ! Works out kinda pricey having to sort accommodation and everything tho even if it's only £20(ish) a night in a hostel or whatever. I'd almost certainly have gone to most of the subsequent events if they hadn't clashed with Glasto week anyways. The High Voltage Festival in Victoria Park also looks like being a d@mn fine event as well but, unfortunately, it also knda clashes with something else I always do so I'm not likely to find out any time soon.

my scariest gig too. i was on the barrier and it actually started to give with the pressure. when security start looking terrified and there's a man running around tightening bolts, you know there could be a big problem. however i've seen radiohead 19 times and that was absolutely the only time i've had The Fear.
