In terms of Glasto stuff, I'd say it's the one festival where I wouldn't recommend scrimping and saving in terms of camping equipment. Foolishly found a tent in Tesco reduced down to £1.97 once, that was miserable for camping in for two nights, let alone five.

Get a decent, waterproof tent and a decent, warm sleeping bag. Some good, comfortable walking boots are recommended too - there's a lot of walking and a lot of hours, you want them to be as enjoyable as possible.

Put one full change of clothes - underwear, shirt, jeans, socks, pair of shoes - in a bag of some sort and hand it in to the property lock ups. This means that even if your tent leaks, you fall in mud etc. etc. etc. you'll have a full clean set of fresh clothing to wear on the horrible trip home.

For me its.....

1...Good quality tent

2...Self inflating bed roll ( found this excellent, and no need to overspend on sleeping bag)

3...Proper footware.... I spent £130 on a pair of Brasher hiking boots three years back and have never regretted it, along with good socks as well.

4... Foot cream, nice to put on after a day on your feet.

If Tony Benn speaks at Leftfield then, whatever your politics, try to make time to see him.

Forget the rabid stuff you may have heard about him over the years as, like Michael Foot, his qualities will perhaps only be fully acknowledged once he is no longer with us. A true conviction politician and a great orator.

Yeah, Leftfield was there in '07 and '08 - they got rid of it last year but Tony Benn appeared on the Blazing Saddles stage instead.

I made the effort to see him in '08, but only saw him last year because I'd gone to see a Futureheads secret set on the same stage and hung around afterwards.

Don't plan on seeing more than one or two bands a day. It's a holiday, a magical experience, not a f**king military manouvre. The bits you'll remember, really remember are the unexpected, the spotaneous, the things you stumble upon in a corner of the site, maybe just you and a few others there, not watching some overpaid rock ponces look all precious on the pyramid stage.

    • Ultimately much of EU f**ked up with this, instead of showing solidarity they just said and did some stupid sh*t to supposedly punish Spain for their own political reasons. Ultimately its one of the reasons why EU will never fully reach its potential as long as it remains a group of sovereign states.

    • I would be very surprised as well if they are are European Festivals and Werchter isn't one of them. They have done Roskilde before but with big gaps   They have done NOS once and they have done Mad Cool once while playing 3 times at Werchter during the period Mad Cool has ran.
