Download Headliners

I'd happily go and see all 3 Download headliners, but I know that looking at the rest of the lineup from previous years there'll be only 10 bands I'd want to see over the whole weekend. At Glastonbury I usually have at least that many band that I'd want to see on every day. All aboout taste, if you really like your rock then Download is looking great this year.

Everyone knows it's not about the headliners at Glasto. Only people who haven't been think it is.

The line up will lack the diversity that Glasto has and when released in full will be very niche.

From an entirely personal perspective, I'd rather see Glasto's headliners this year, because I've seen AC/DC - at MOR 1991 - and Aerosmith. I've not seen Stevie Wonder, and I'm very excited about it.

The last time I saw Aerosmith (Hyde Park) I thought they were disappointing, and not half the band that I saw on the Pump tour in 1990, before they starting knocking out albums with four or five ballads on them. They were great that year, especially when Jimmy Page jammed four or five numbers with them at the Marquee club. Something very right about Tyler screaming out the Immigrant Song.

As many posters have said before, you aren't comparing apples with apples. Both headlining line-ups are strong in my opinion, but Glasto as compared to Download is comparing London with Hemel-Hempstead. Download is a gig in a field.

Mind you, the best performance at Donnington race-track was Aryton Senna, overtaking four cars on the first lap of the European GP in 1993. But that's probably for another thread.

Also, you are missing the main point, organiser Michael Eavis doesn't pay the big £ top bands want. He still approaches them to play but relies on their good will to perform for much less ££££.

Agreed I've seen all three Download headliners before, none of them are very new are they? Whilst Glastonbury has a more traditional line-up with less emphasis on rock it offers a hugely varied smorgasbord of acts - many of which I won't have seen before.

Whilst im pretty jealous of those acts (probably because its more suited to my personal taste) I know for a fact I will have a better time at Glastonbury. You just cant really compare. Im also really looking forward to finally seeing U2, a band who I have constantly missed due to circumstances outside my control and I have no doubt Stevie will be THE performance of the year.

Wish I could go to both!

U2 will do a Red Rocks moment at Glasto. They for me are the best headliner any festival could ever have. But that's just my taste

My top 5 played songs on my playlist include RATM, ACDC, Zep and Foos, so I can't help sympathising with the OP. If the Download headliners were announced for GF, i would be more excited than Max Clifford in a nightclub full of Page 3 girls and Premiership footballers.

However, agreeing with most of the posters, nowt compares to Glastonbury, seeing your all time favourite bands there is just the icing on the cake. I've been to Download and was pleasantly surprised, it was great fun, especially the massive trippy funfair and after hours "rock" disco. However, it is basically held in a carpark. The surroundings are pretty grim.

Good on Download for a storming line-up, which may persuade me to go back this year. But as I have said before, I would go to GF if the line-up consisted of two old blokes playing the spoons.

Personally i think both have awesome headliners in their own right, i wish i could afford Download i would go just to see those 3 headliners. Aerosmith got a bad rep with the cheesey shite they did in the 90's but their late 70's & 80's tunes are awesome i think download will really be awesome this year.

Glaso will as well too of course but thats a gimme.

Also Download (more specifically Donington) has tremendous history.

I was really looking forward to them but the gig was disappointing. There were murmurings that they were just going through the motions by the time I go to see them. Kid Rock supported and to be fair, totally blew them away (which is a shame really)

Usually Download's line-up is appalling, but this year I might just give old Donnington a go.
