Good cross section of replies here, obviously a lot of rock fans, including myself, go to Glasto because indeed it is the best festival in England, hell maybe the world?

I also concur that Stevie wonder, the stone circle, field of avalon, brothers bar, and overall Glasto vibe does out do Download this year, ... the main point i was making that a (piss poor) festival like download, has outdone itself with bookings like this.

But no doubt the nearer the time comes Eavis will book his usual smaller set bookings and Glasto 10 will once again become a part of history

i am also a rock fan who goes to glastonbury beacuse imo it is the best festival and i only live 20mins away :P. however i think this year the headliners of download beat glastonbury. i would of loved to go to download to but dont ever go beacuse none of my mates ever seem to be intersted in anything other than glastonbury, v, reading or isle of wight.

also think if isle of wight pull paul mcart out of the bag for sunday then their headliners will be better than glastos as well :P

I can appreciate that Download has attracted 3 very big bands, but out of the 3 I'd only want to watch RATM, I'd watch AC/DC if there was nothing else on. I'd rather sit in a portaloo than watch Aerosmith, his mouth intimidates me.

The thing that will always be with these major festivals is that no matter what the bands, at festivals like Download and Reading/Leeds you'll always have a pretty formulated experience. Drink Music Drink Sleep is pretty much that formula for most people. But at Glastonbury you never feel its becoming predictable. I mean last year I didn't see half the bands I wanted to because there was so much to distract me.

The reality is no festival can buy the delights that is the stone circle at sunrise or sunset or anytime really :P .

Headliners dont really come into it. They are just a bonus really you could go to GF and not see a big stage act & still have the best weekend ever.

Having seen RATM at Glasto and Reading been there done that...

Seeing them at Finsbury though is going to be a different story and cant wait, its going to be a brilliant day.

ACDC yes, I would love to see them

As for Aerosmith... Meh, has never done t for me.....

The thing is its a whole different festival, a different vibe and a different demographic, so there really is not comparison....

    • There's only one date that's not pretty much sold out 😂
    • Madonna lived in the UK for absolutely ages and I think is still largely London-based at the moment.  I'm sure she'll be well aware.     But it wouldn't need to be either / or.  Lots of acts do both  - Glastonbury for the hype and BST for the pay.
    • There is a chance that Norton's reaction was very much like our reaction, because people in this country tend to think 'big = Glastonbury'.   Having said that, though, I'm fairly sure they've gone for her again this time, and it's broken down. Whether it's only just broken down or not, I'm not sure, but I'd air on the side of - they thought they had her, up to a certain point.
    • Yeah, I did wonder if they might be getting too big for Piece Hall now. Wet Leg did Castlefield this year and were subbing them at Tramlines. Wishful thinking! I'd happily see them do another outdoor headline in the north of England, wherever it might be (except R+L, which I'm def too old for now 😂)
    • You've certainly got a bunch of American acts who absolutely adore the festival and are willing to bring peanuts for it. You can never discount The Killers on that basis.
