I was at the front barrier for a good 5 hours a couple years back... something I've rarely done... and it was great fun... the only thing that spoiled it were a couple of irritating teenage girls who kept repeatedly begging to be allowed through to the barrier. They has a perfect view and there was no other problem, they just wanted.... what they wanted. They appeared to have little idea of what was going on onstage.. so it seemed to be purely about getting to the front for the sake of it. Very irritating. And they thought they were being sweet, funny and amusing rather than just genuinely pissing everyone else off but everyone was too polite to actually tell them!

Getting past me into space is fine, but you know when you just take a like a mini step back into the person behind you, and lean to the side a little, and breathe in a bit to let someone past, and then they just stay there in that little TEMPORARY space you made for them to squeeze through? Thats the one that gets me!

Agreed, a little consideration of your fellow festival goers costs nothing and can make a big difference to peoples experiences, but I think a few people on here need to chill the f**k out. Its a festival guys, this is all part and parcel of it. Just go with the flow and don't let these things stress you.

Too much "i was here first...don't stand there cus your tall ... don't put a flag up ....get off that guys shoulders .... stop talking" whining going on. This is glastonbury ffs, not the pissing opera

The funniest ever was the pushing in this year for Maximo Park at the Queens Head. We had positioned ourselves in a nice spot just under the flaps (eh?) with access to a much needed breeze and had waited nicely for an hour or so......then with just minutes to go we had the usual tap on the shoulder "Excuse me...we couldnt be arsed to wait so can we push past you". Now I dont mind people going to the front because Ive been there, done that and now at the gentle age of 45 prefer to stand at the back with my lads and take in the whole view....however I was concerned for this group of passerbyers as they were heading towards the sweaty pit of hell with not an ounce of fluid between them. I offered a bottle of water to take with them...paternal instincts and all that...which was accepted apart from one cocky pubescent little oik who sneered at the gesture with the comment "Alright Grandad..too hot for yer is it..f**k off back to the old peoples home" ( which I will point out is only one of two unpleasant people I came across the whole of this years Glasto). I smiled and waved him a fond farewell.

Two songs in and the crowd had reached a sweaty heaving consistency when a gap opened before me...there, being dragged out by his mates, was the same nasty snarly face...although somewhat paler and what could only be described as as " proper poorly". The surrounding crowd, having watched the earlier events, all cheered at the sight and I am sorry to say that it did leave me with a rather smug sense of wellbeing. So if you are by chance reading this....HAHA! because I nearly wet myself laughing (not age related!)

(The other unpleasent person was somebody trying to force there way out of the Blur concert declaring them to be "S**T old people crap". Stoned out of her head she tripped over by bag and landed face first in a suspicious damp patch to a roar of approval from the crowd....happy memories.)........(actually I may have pushed her a little bit...but what the heck)

if all the pricks thats take chairs to sit on between bands, then stand up when the next band comes on, folded there chairs up when they stand,the crowds would be alot less congested.

I must admit at Reading this year my friends woundered there way through n I was 'oh here will d wont it' and I felt so embarssed that I squeezed through and apologised to pretty much whoever I saw. I obviously relised glasto and Reading are two different festivals and just wondered what glast goers thought.

i dont mind it before the bands are on and if they are polite, but what annoys me is the groups of people who decide to push when the bands are on and arent bothered about knocking into everyone

whenever ive wanted to be near the front ive always found the best option to be come in from the side and work my way horizontally, that way your walking in front of people and its easier to get past without causing too much disruption, plus they can see you coming and generally let you through unlike coming from behind them

All tall people could be given little spades to dig little holes to stand in.......and the resulting mounds of earth used for short people to stand on. The average height could be set at 5,11 (my height) and the world would be a happy place.

Right at the start of Kasabian this year I started to feel very very sick so thought that it was probably best to try and get out of the crowd to somewhere less packed, the hassle and downright abuse we got from a small number of people was shocking, they seemed to think that this little piece of a field was thier, personal, numbered spot ITS A CROWD!!!!! you have no right to any spot and no right to deny people walking past.

It got to the point where I had to explane to one tw%t that I either went past him or stayed where I was and threw up on him. Some people really seemed to think that they had the right to grant or deny access.

Probably my most unpleasent Glasto experience.

I echo the comment on a previous page that pointed out that there is a big crowd of people everywhere at Glasto and nobody has a right to any patch of grass (mud). We all just have to get on with it as politely as possible.

I'm quite short, so if I'm standing further back in the crowd, I will have a wander about and pick a spot where I can see nicely. What really gets me upset is, once I have chosen that sweet little spot, someone tall comes and stands in front of me. So I shuffle to the side a bit, where possible, and tall person's mate comes along. So I shuffle a bit, and I can see a reasonable amount of stage through the middle of them. But then they start talking to each other, leaning into that lovely space *sob*. So I have another little wander, find another space, and it happens again *sob sob*.

I've literally had bruises under my arms where I've had to protect my barrier spot at some gigs Although I found it quite funny while waiting at the barrier for Soul Savers at Leeds fest, to sit on my folding stool. At least half a dozen people came charging towards the space they saw above my head, only to be crushed by me sat there The disappointment on their faces was so funny I did fold the stool and stand when the band came on though.

As others have said, it's very annoying when there's a constant stream of people walking past/in front of you. Once a few people create a path more will join it and before you know it you're standing in the middle of a human motorway!

I always say sorry/excuse me to people if i'm trying to get past, I hate rude ones that just push through.

One annoying thing in crowds is people sitting down, because from a short distance it looks like a free space in the crowd, then when you get there you end up almost tripping over them.

I can't remember the origonal reason we took our camping chairs down to Bruce Springsteen, but we did. We're both 5ft 1 and can NEVER see at gigs, unless we strike lucky and can find a space between people's heads. So, there we are with our chairs, just to the side of the sound desk at the Pyramid, so we weren't in the pit and there was room around us, and came up with the idea that we could take it in turns to stand on the chairs for a few minutes too actually see over the crowd (we were too polite to both stand on them at once and block people's view behind us), and they guys's behind and to the side were helping us balance. Then one suggested "Why don't you both stand up there together, we'll help you balance" - so we did. It was hard balancing on those chairs but MY GOD it was worth it. Now we've been to a lot of gigs, and normally go sitting if we can because we can never see anything stood up. Actually seeing a gig from a standing perspective for the first time was absolutely amazing. Even the sound was better, so much clearer. We couldn't believe how different it was, and we could actually see the stage and the band and could see just above everyone's heads! The guys around us were great, and helped us balance. But it was just incredible. And Bruce Springsteen as well!

Did it again for Blur the next night. It really, really made our festival. And although we didn't like the thought of blocking people's view behind us, we just thought "Well all you tall people have always blocked our view, we're having this experience whether anyone complains or not" (people didn't by the way - phew), and an older lady next to us who was the same height did the same and used her massive husband to balance and said it was amazing too.

So, for Glasto 10, we've already bought some folding steps to give us an extra 10 inches or so. It really does make the difference!

I never realised people in a crowd considered it a queue - i just go to where i can see hear well - and if someone is making noise i move somewhere else. If I go to the loo i go back to where my mates are - never considered i was pushing in!

people need to get over it. if there is a space in front of you and your not willing to take it, then you cant moan if someone else does, especially if they are polite when moving past. and if you still want to have a moan, then tell it to the back of my head.

what does annoy me though, is when people sit down on a blanket right near the front of the stage when there is a performance. Blatantly being stubborn because everyone around them is stood up and standing on their blanket. Same with chairs near the front. Its just selfish.
