sorry if this topic is else where

but i thought it would be fun to discuss a few suggestions of what they should put there

maybe a recreation of a victorian freak show must include boxing kangeroos (i think they are due a revival) and someone dressed as papa lazoo from league of gentlemen.

one of those weird victorion futuristic jules verne style worlds taking inspiration from that smashing pumkins video, hordes of japanese animations (i.e steam boy / laputa) and that film with tesla played by bowie. all weird plyons and stream powered contraptions where the modern goes on alongside the antebelliam a remiamging of the present world based on the further developemnt of defumnct victorian technology

sorry starting to prattle any other ideas

could have jigs and party tress and fire works

then again that may cause copyrite issues

maybe call it bobbiton instead

hopefully they will do away with those ridiculous flamethrower things. Sure, they looked pretty, but I wonder how much energy they wasted over the course of the week? There is no place at a so-called green festival for that kind of gimmick I say.

they looked like people easily board and would probably come up with something completely different

wasn't thinking of anything quite that clean cut how would anything be that clean with all that stream around

i was alo thinking something along the idea of the nautlaus (nemos vesseal in 20,000 league if ive spelt it wrong)

i did love the idea in watchman when the flowers in the gun girl was shot makes you think

I like this idea - kind of like the early final fantasy world - with airships, and steam - but I do think there's a lot recycling in Shangri-La where similar themes are often re-visited and it appears to have its roots more in a Mad Mad-esque vision, rather than the clean lines and polished brass of an imagined world you suggest - it would be rather nice though. I'm put in mind of a Patrick Woodroffe inspired vision which would be fantastic - with brass, steam, bamboo, parts of mannequins, and weird spikey fish, and animals!

Here's the stage he designed for Genesis:

They've always mentioned a 2000AD Mega City 1 type imagining of the future, but I never feels it comes that close - my 2000AD view of the world is more rounded in its vision - soft edges, spirals and extraneous lumps.

like this:

I'd like to see them do it like this - a sort of blend of inSpiral and Roger Dean - it would be great if they could bring his house back again:

which took up residence in the Greenfields one year.

I found the imagery to be very Blade-runner like, but the political situation they were portraying was much more interesting. I liked the whole imersion in the dystopian future, and would like to see them expand on this idea, rather than replace it.

I liked the idea of compulsory pleasure, rather like Brave New World, but interesting to learn more about where the materials behind it, the "Soma", comes from.

The Blade Runner sorta stuff was great, would quite like something in the Half Life 2 style - kind of a dystopian eastern bloc feel to it. Could fit in with 'The Punishment of Luxury' theme 5co77ie said above with all the regulations etc.

Victorian era would be great aswell, maybe a Britain in the Blitz idea could work...air raid sirens going off every now and again, destruction and so on...

An alternative Victorian steam powered airship laiden Eastern Bloc influenced War Of The Worlds would be fun. ;) kind of like a soviet Dan Dare

or perhaps an Eastern flavour with an Astroboy type thing - and have Flaming Lips playing somewhere!

what about toon town from who framed rodger rabbit with its 50's vibe you could have betty boops burlesque bar , those duelling pianos and everybody dressed as toons

keep the politicval thinking storyline with judge doom wandering about

soviet dan dare would be cool too but do lioke the idea of somethiong lighter to contrast to trash city and arcadia

    • As first timers last year the whole set-up blew our mind with the fire on the Sunday, it seemed you could get too close and I didn’t like dodging falling embers!
    • I'd be absolutely amazed if they went without a female headliner.

    • Kinda sounds like we’re heading towards Fender, Fontaines & Harry however I can’t see them not getting a female headliner so think it’ll be Fender or Fontaines and another. They’ll obviously try for Madonna but they’ve also tried before, really depends on whether she’s bothered about it.
