Just to add context before I make this statement, I'd like to say that I do like a bit of Hip Hop from time to time (from NWA, through Ice Cube's solo stuff, Da Luniz, Pharcyde to Jay-Z and Kanye West) so this isn't a genre biased view:

Eminem is absolutely God-awful. His voice is like a drill on my skull, he is uninventive and his recent guest appearance and collaboration stuff makes me want to bludgeon him to death with my bare hands. Like earlier comments about Madonna, I would be horrified if he was at Glasto next year. In fact, if I were locked in a room with a gun, 1 bullet and both Madonna and Eminem, I'd shoot myself. In the ear (just in case I didn't die).

There. Glad I got that off my chest.

Your entitled to your opinion by all means so I'm not saying you're wrong as they are your views, but if it wasn't for Eminem, rap wouldn't have been what it is today! I personally don't mind his voice at all and think if you actually listen to his lyrics (beyond the gay jokes etc) there is so much meaning in it! But then again that's my opinion!

But I totally agree with the Madonna! I can't stand her!

I would like to think, probably somewhat naively but what the hey, that the organisers wouldn't book someone who was openly homophobic, regardless of how 'funny' or 'tongue in cheek' that homophobia was. I completely agree with llcoolphil, words are incredibly powerful and so much racism/homophobia is insidious, meant to fly under the radar or be excused because it's wrapped in some bigger social message *insert very disbelieving smiley here* or else it's done in a post modern, ironic way.

Returning to Glasto after a very long absense I want to believe that the Eavisesessses....Eavii....whatever.... still believe in their part in social responsibility, if that's the right way to put it. So while I have no beef with anyone liking Eminem, s'free world and all that - I kinda expect better from the Glastonbury line up and would be a little bit ouch on the inside if I saw him anywhere on the bill.

Now I'm waiting for someone to come along and tell me when 'insert artist here' played the Special K stage in the great flood of 2007 and THEY were homophobic/racist/misogynistic/anti martian so that's all ok then.......
